Hi all,

I did a search and didn't find anything relevant. I apologize if this question has already been asked before.

I am planning to buy in DC and the house we are targeting doesn't have a range hood in the kitchen. Does the neighborhood allow installation and use of range hood vented to the outside? If yes, do you have any recommendations for any vendors with installation services?

Thanks,

Oldfisher

Lowe's or Home Depot and they can also arrange/provide installation.

I couldn't imagine a case where a "neighborhood" wouldn't allow a range hood to be vented to the exterior of a home. What you likely found was a home where the option to have the hood vented outside was NOT selected by the original home buyer. As simple as it may seem to vent it outside VS inside, it usually costs a couple hundred $$ extra, since it's more than one trade that gets involved with the installation. Your best bet is to start with a roofing company, who can get that proper roof cap installed. They may be able to help find the right contractor to connect it on the opposite end. Try calling this company: BRC Roofing, Jacksonville Roofing Contractors, Roofing Services Company Jacksonville, FL | BRC High Tech Roof Division

I don't know who you are building with but we are in DC North and have a range hood vented to the outside.

The rate for the propane will vary based on your supplier. I've heard that the going rate is somewhere around $4.00 per gallon.

Tank rentals are pretty inexpensive. At one point, Sawyer Gas would only charge about $35/yr (I think) for renting the tank. I don't know what the current lease rate is, though.

That must have happened recently. Seems like I just saw a Sawyer gas truck not long ago. Thanks!
