Does anyone have any experience with the Jackosnville Amtrak Station? We are thinking about taking the train to Savannah for a couple nights, so we would need to park the car at the Jax station. Is the area safe? At least safe enough to park a car there overnight?

Thanks

The Jacksonville Amtrak station is in a pretty rough neighborhood/area of town. I personally wouldn't park a car there overnight, I'm not even sure if they
have overnight parking available. I would find a long term lot near downtown or at the airport and then take a cab to the Jacksonville Amtrak station.

Why not just drive to Savannah? It's 2 hours away.

Is the station close to the waterfront?

Yes, a couple miles, I think. Looks like several hotels offer a shuttle from the station.

My kids (college aged) take the train sometimes. It is in a rough part of town, and we've never left a car there. But the actual train ride is wonderful! All three of our college kids prefer the train to flying any time they have the choice.

Last year we had the opportunity to pick up and later drop friends and family several times at the Amtrak Station, granted it was the early 90's since we were last there.........but I thought the area surrounding the station looked a hell of a lot better than we saw in the past. We did always visit during the peak times of the day last year.......not at night.

funny I saw this thread today. A co worker of mine told me he takes the train instead of driving when he heads into GA all the time. I asked him if he parked his car overnight, and he said he doesn't. Always gets his girlfriend to drop him off. Take it for what it's worth.
