Gucci is good, but we need a Neiman Marcus so that I can shop for Balenciaga. Right now, I get everything from diabro.net, but I want to window shop every now and then, right? What a lot of people don't realize is that I do not just talk about wanting these upscale stores, I actually shop there. I am an avid collector of Louis Vuitton right now, but I will be switching to Balenciaga soon. Here is my current collection for anyone else that is a fanatic like myself:

My wife and I are also Neiman's shoppers (really my wife). Having family in Texas, we actually go to the flagship store in Dallas every Christmas to do some shopping. Neiman's said that they are not interested in the Jacksonville market and are not considering a store in NE Florida. However, if Macy's does well and a few more department stores move into town I think they may reconsider.

1. neiman marcus would never survive here in JAX, they are way too upscale and the number of people in JAX who could afford the place is way too small.

2. what is all the hub bub about macys? many of us come from the NY area which is the home of Macys, and I think many will agree with me when I say that I really never liked shopping there, their prices are high for the level of goods they sell, they have little staff that actually knows anything and are of little help and since their expansion the goods they carry is completely unoriginal, you can find the same for less in other stores.
Dillards and Belk serve the area fine, Macys will come but I for one couldn't care less.

3. The store that should come to JAX is Nordstroms, these guys know how to do a dept store, good, quality merchandise and an excellent and knowledgeable staff. Their prices can be high but there is value there.
and when the women see their shoe dept they will only shop there.

ymmv

hehe, then have to wonder how those stores in phase three will survive in the long term . That section is just an outdoor version of the Millennium Mall in ORL (minus NM). And we're not exactly a tourist city.

1. I'm not sure it would survive either. And for now, they agree.
2. I think the bubub about Macy's is that it brings another department store to the area. It's not Macy's in particular, just more variety. I'm not a big fan of Macy's either. But having a few department stores to choose from is a step in the right direction.
3. I think Nordstrom would also be great and is a great store, but it looks like it's going to by Macy's instead.

Macy's is standard fare up North, true. I grew up with Macy's, even worked there while in school - oh, the clothing discount !

Here, Dillards is okay and Parisian is okay (is there still a Parisian at the Avenues? I haven't been there in quite a while), but I think Macy's will offer some slightly better choices/brands, it'll just be nice having the option. I've shopped at the Macy's in Orlando so it will be nice having one here.

I can't stand Belks - I find their stuff to be so old-ladyish.

yup Macy's been rumored for years now, even speculations that it'll be at the Avenue's Mall.

They need some kind of parking there cause its kinda hellish getting parked & getting to the store you're visiting. And its only getting worse with the sprawling nature of the setup & the new Phases.

I only wish the Town Center was more of a pedestrian mall. They bill it as one, but its actually not. True pedestrian outdoor malls (like this one in TX) are set up where you park your car in a structure or lot & then never see any cars again until its time to leave. I feel like at the Town Center I'm constantly dodging cars.
