The issue of the beach itself it valid. Lots of people prefer West coast beaches. AND the vibe there is different. AND there's Sarasota unless that's too pricey. Don't rule out West Coast for sure! There are a couple of other current "want to relo to a liberal place" threads floating around over on the other forum with lots of suggestions and reasons for West coast relos.

Beaches in Jax are not little rocks... Not sugar sand like in PCB or Pensacola, but not bad. Daytona Beach is very limited in cultural offerings and is driven by tourist seasons ( ie bike week.) Not as many jobs in Daytona and more of a retirement feeling. Jacksonville is not driven by tourism or retirement like lots of central and southern Florida

I prefer the beach here in Jacksonville, (North Jetties) to the ones on the west coast of Florida that I have visited. This has nothing to do with the quality of the sand. But it has more to do with not having to walk 1/4 of a mile out into the gulf to actually get wet above my knees. And I happen to like waves, if there's no storm in the Gulf of Mexico there's hardly any waves on west coast beaches.

..... other forum? -p/.

ALSO: I would love more info regarding the comment about the 'feel' of the western beach cities versus the eastern coast.
