eye doctor and dentist around 32225 zip
Hi,
Since I have found this website few weeks ago, I come here almost every day and check on Jacksonville forum. There is so much information here; I wish I had known of this website before.
I am looking for a good eye doctor. I have been to a few doctors in the last couple of years since I moved to Jacksonville but neither of them is good to go back again the next year.
If you have or know of a good eye doctor, can you please let me know?
I live in 32225 zip code (Atlantic blvd). Looking for the eye doctor preferably in this area but if there is a good doctor, I am willing to drive till the other end of Jacksonville also
I am also looking for a good dentist in this area, 32225 zip. Please let me know if you know of a good one.
Thanks

I don't know how far down Atlantic you are but Harbor Dental at Atlantic & Hodges(there is an Outback steakhouse at the end) is great that where we go

I like using United Optical Outlet for eye care.
They have a few different locations - there's one downtown, one in OP, apparently there's even one on Atlantic Blvd:
United Optical Outlet
10916 Atlantic Blvd in 32225 (just to the east of St. Johns Bluff)
The one I go to is on University Blvd, just a bit east of I95.
Their prices are awesome - their glasses are even cheaper than Costco last time I did a comparison (but their contacts are a bit more ).
They have a deal where the glasses are $50. You can spend a bit more for Ralph Lauren frames, etc., but they're still very reasonable. They have a doctor that goes from location to location to do the eye exams and he's really nice and reminds me a lot of my eye doctors in NY (he's a high quality doctor).
The downside is the insurance aspect - they will give you receipts and you'll have to submit them yourself.
An upside is that they are locally-owned and it's nice to support locally owned and operated Jax businesses when you can, and these guys are really good .

Hi Amy
Not sure if you have found an eye doctor yet, but you mention that you would not mind the distance being a bit out of your area , so I would like to recommend one too , Dr. Jerry Knauer . He has primarily been my eyedoctor since childhood for the most part , and having been to a couple of other "chain" offices I would still prefer to go to him , not saying that those *aren't* good to go to either or anything ; because they certainly are; but I have always felt that the exams at places which are more commercial (for lack of better term there) are not as extensive, just my 2 cents
Dr. Jerry Knauer
2535 Riverside Ave
Jacksonville, FL 32204
and the phone number
(904) 388-6548

I agree, I've tried a few of the national chains too and felt like they were a waste of money. I'll buy contacts at Costco, but I won't have them do my prescription. My eyesight is so bad it is considered "off the charts" and the slightest miscalculation in my prescription renders my contacts or glasses useless. I have been really happy with the doctor at United Optical though - he does a full-fledged exam.
If I was having an eye problem, or needed a second opinion, I would go to Dr. Woods. He's very well known - not only as an eye doctor, but as a Jacksonville Historian (he's written some great books on Jacksonville ). He is much higher priced though, so if it's just for lens prescriptions, Optical Outlet works for me.
