Hey yall, a little help is needed. I currently work and live in Brunswick, Ga and my fiancee lives and works in in Orange Park. We're planning on living together somewhere in Jax at the beginning of June. We're looking for a good area to live in, far as north can get. North-side is not an option. I'm trying to keep my driving time to Brunswick around 50 minutes. Our budget is $900 monthly. Can y'all give me some options...thanks

Curious why the "North-side" is not an option? If you're referring to the small northwest quadrant near downtown Jax, that's one thing. But other areas in northern Duval, also referred to as Northside, are quite different (and I live here and love it). If you're set on living in Jacksonville, then the Northside is the closest to Brunswick (but it's more than a 50 minute commute).

Have you considered Nassau County, such as in the Yulee area? That's more equi-distant between Brunswick and Orange Park.

I'm open for the Northside, unfortunately I have to convince my sweetheart. From Rivercity to Brunswick is a 40 minute drive, but the places in Rivercity is beyond our budget. Name a good area on the north, with a good school district.

Nassau County/Fernandina, FL. like St Johns County is an A rated school system and is equidistant between Orange Park, FL. and Brunswick, GA.

School ratings - wish I could help with that, but schools aren't a factor for us anymore.

(P.S. I based my comment that Northside to Brunswick was more than 50 minutes only on the general driving distance from the airport to the middle of Brunswick -- the shorter distance you mention would of course be more accurate for you!)

Besides the new suburban developments near River City, the North Shore is a good neighborhood on the Northside.

How much is your budget?

The developments near River City Market Place are generally not very expensive.

In regards to school districts, it's more more complicated than that.

There area number of good schools on "the Northside" but it's not a uniformally good district. Most of Jax doesn't have uniformally good schools across each school district.

However, if you are zoned for an area with poor schools, you have the option to send your children to better schools.

I live near Downtown in a school district with both highly and poorly rated schools, however families in the area often send their kids to magnet schools or exercise the 'school preference' option, because they receive preference over people living in areas with better zoned schools.

Otherwise, few with means and kids would live in areas with poorly rated schools, but because of the options available, many do.
