Our car insurance rates did go up, but our homeowners went down. The increase was more than the decrease-can't remember numbers offhand-but it at least helped offset.

Auto insurance is going to be about $200/mo. for 2 "newer" cars, give or take of course.

Be careful on your home insurance as well, it should be somewhere between $800-$1200 a year. Some of our neighbors are getting completely screwed by the likes of USAA, they were paying $6500/yr until they mentioned it in casual conversation and everyone was appalled.

$200/mo for 2 cars? Do you have a bad driving record? I currently pay $99/mo for 2 cars (a 2006 and a 2014). You might be able to find some savings by switching companies if you're paying that much.

Edit: Obviously it depends on your coverage levels and deductibles. (We are 50/100/50, UM, PIP, Comp/Coll with a $250 deduc).

If anyone knows of local auto insurers that might be able to beat the likes of Geico/Progressive/etc. please chime in. I know Esurance.com compares many insurers but I don't know they would quote local companies.

Yes, once I got the quote from Geico I canceled my new policy within minutes and switched to Progressive. Still more expensive than CO but was a better detal than Geico. Such a shame because Geico has great customer service and an even better website.

Can someone explain how or why Florida would have high Auto Insurance Rates? Given the State is known to have low paying salaries and a lot of retirees on a fixed income? And its more suburban & rural than urban like NY.

I'd imagine its risk based. I don't know the specifics behind it, but one thing that I found interesting was that in the state if you need your windshield replaced its covered by your auto insurance (coming from VA where that wasn't always the case).

It's something about mandatory uninsured drivers protection, the rates are higher here. Where's Robyn when you need her? She knows everything about stuff like this and will spice it up with some controversial angle on it all

This helps to explain it, something to do with Personal Injury Protection coverages and the fact that FL hasn't yet gone to a no-fault state: Florida ranks among the 10 most expensive states for car insuranc | www.palmbeachpost.com

Wow, that was an eye opening article, thanks Florida2014. I am very surprised.IDNK. NY is #8, FLA is #10. Here I was thinking I was going to say goodbye to my ridiculous $2200 Auto Insurance Bill with a move to Florida. I'm going to try and get in with USAA. BTW, I can't believe California is #44 on that list with their widely known high cost of living.
