Trying to decide between the two. Have Direct Tv now that's up for renewal. Looking for feedback on Dish. Love it? Hate it? No difference? They both bundle with DSL and AT&T. But Dish is really pushing hard in NEFL with some aggressive packaging. Plus I favor their international sports programming. Any Dish users out there?

I prefer DirecTVs international programming/sports. I like Setanta Sports. DirecTV has the "Cricket Ticket" package for you as a "cricketfan".

I also prefer Direct TV's lineup, overall, it's generally a better deal that offers more.

How is the reception on the dishes? If the wind blows over 10MPH do they go out? Also, don't they offer a lot more HD channels? I'm not talking about the premium channels, just the things like lifetime, TBS, etc.

With Direct TV just the basic plan is 155 channels, not sure about Dish Network. The max is 250 channels. I consider much of what TV offers today to be worthless anyway so most of those channels to me are just a waste of bandwidth. In a rainstorm, particularly if there is lightning, you will generally lose your signal temporarily. That's the only disadvantage vs cable but I think satellite is the way to go anyway.

Well I agree about a waste of time, but since I'm going to waste my time, I'd prefer it to be in HD. Comcast really doesn't have much in HD channels, they always seem to be slow in picking them up.

Yeah, I guess you're right... I like your attitude about time. I kinda overstated the thing about "waste of time". There are some things on TV that I really look forward to watching too. I'm not a big TV person so I didn't spring for the premium packages. Less than 50 bucks a month for the basic 155 is good enough for me. Are you thinking of switching from Comcast?

been considering it, because I am fairly certain they have more HD channels, but I used to travel all the time and it seemed in the hotel rooms the tv was always going out due to weather. that's why I asked. I think with Comcast we have like 400 stations, and I still cannot find much decent to watch. So I guess I waste time on the message boards instead. HAHAHAHAHA. kidding.

I don't prefer DirectTV, I worked for their mother installation company and hated the way things were handled. I would go with Dish Network...

Thanks, but what do you mean by the "way things were handled"? Once the dish and the rest of the equipment are installed and you sign off and the signals keep coming in, I should think it is only a question of the quality and choice of programming.
