Hello,

My family is planning a move from Evanston to Jacksonville for my husband's job. The job is located in the Southside area and we would like recommendations for safe, kid friendly neighborhoods with good schools.

Evanston is pretty diverse, so I would love a community similar . Ideally the commute would be around 20 minutes.
Home prices 200 to 350 (4 beds 2+).

Thanks so much!

I believe they want a Target AND a walmart nearby

@OP: A quick search and you will probably find many similar threads which say Durbin Crossing, Julington Creek, Nocatee are all within 20 minutes of Southside, kid friendly, St. John's schools, safe, price range you are looking for, etc.

Perhaps start there and then you will have some more specific questions we can help you with.

Are you looking for more suburban or urban core? There are both types of neighborhoods that would fit your desired commute.

Welcome! I lived in Evanston for a few years...loved it and Chicago very much!

But I agree, would need more info about what you want before suggesting more. Specifically whether you want a denser environment where you could walk to things or whether you'd be cool with the suburban layout and neighborhoods. Obviously the former is more like Evanston, but just not sure if that's the aspect of Evanston you're hoping to find in Jax.

I agree with the others. They will need more to go on to determine what kind of atmosphere you're looking for. Evanston has a lot of "personalities". It is the first suburb bordering Chicago along the lakefront, has Northwestern University and runs the gamut from ultra posh palaces to rickety urban decay.

Thanks for the feedback. Husband has to commute to work, hence the need to live in an area not too far from his job.

I've lived all over Chicago so I'm okay with urban areas or suburban. I would probably prefer suburban for the kids sake though.
Diversity: I'm looking for a variety in activities and people. I grew up in Southern Illinois where things are Black and White, with not much else culturally. I would like to be near an area with access to museums, parks, zoo, shopping, etc.
