Ocklawaha - Your post is the most entertaining, yet respectful and sensible, thing that I have read all day. Thanks.

Another cautionary remark about "getting cleared for working". My British sister-in-law had to wait for FIVE YEARS and that was in Jacksonville. And yes, you will need a lawyer. Good luck.

On the other hand I know of a UK visitor who was offered sponsorship by a large company after only two interviews. She is back in the UK now but in less than ONE YEAR she will have her visa. It generally amounts to what kind of skills the person has and whether or not those skills are in demand here in the US. If your qualifications are ho-hum then your chances are much slimmer. Pay a visit to hospitals and technology companies here in Jax and you will see a ton of foreigners who were able to short circuit the system because their skills were in demand.

Well said, Cricketfan. Also some British degrees and certifications aren't recognized here. I don't believe the OP indicated what field(s) they were in.

After I first moved out of Jacksonville into a rural area...our electricity went out. We drove down the road to see if we were the only ones with a problem since we just moved in and had some electrical work done at our house or if it was the entire area. One guy down the road had his four wheel drive pulled all the way up to his mobile home with the truck lights on high beam shining in his living room window!! I should've taken a picture of it because we laughed all the way home.

We didn't think he was stupid....we thought it was pretty darn ingenous as we sat in our living room with a fancy herbal candle lit on the coffee table.

I've lived in the area for a while. I'm 23 and can't wait to leave : )
Jacksonville is lacking big time in culture, is too spread out, and too conservative for my taste. Not many great events or terribly interesting things to do around here. The things I find myself doing require me to drive quite a ways rather often--to put it like this, you could potentially drive 30 miles from somewhere in Jacksonville, and somehow still be in Jacksonville. The "city" part of Jacksonville attracts the commuters and they do their thing, but the downtown district is NOT someplace that people walk around and do city-goer types of things in. There are hardly any pedestrians, a terrible public-transportation infrastructure, and an honest lack of attractions in the downtown district.

I see at least one set of testicles hanging from the hitch on pickup trucks each day, apparently some new thing with the rednecks. Slow paced with rather terrible drivers (always some idiots stopping up the fast-lane)

Jacksonville is very close to Georgia and has a different feel than the "real Florida" cities that people have in their head. The oak trees are nice up this way though

The greater Jacksonville area is an interconnected sprawl.

Had to rant.

I have sent you a direct message, this is much more complicated than you think, you may waste a lot of money and find yourself in trouble and unable to come to the USA if you are here illegally, and that is easy the way the system works.
