I've lived in the area for a while. I'm 23 and can't wait to leave : )
Jacksonville is lacking big time in culture, is too spread out, and too conservative for my taste. Not many great events or terribly interesting things to do around here. The things I find myself doing require me to drive quite a ways rather often--to put it like this, you could potentially drive 30 miles from somewhere in Jacksonville, and somehow still be in Jacksonville. The "city" part of Jacksonville attracts the commuters and they do their thing, but the downtown district is
NOT someplace that people walk around and do city-goer types of things in. There are hardly any pedestrians, a terrible public-transportation infrastructure, and an honest lack of attractions in the downtown district.
I see at least one set of testicles hanging from the hitch on pickup trucks each day, apparently some new thing with the rednecks. Slow paced with rather terrible drivers (always some idiots stopping up the fast-lane)
Jacksonville is very close to Georgia and has a different feel than the "real Florida" cities that people have in their head. The oak trees are nice up this way though
The greater Jacksonville area is an interconnected sprawl.
Had to rant.
