Is anything in the works to expand 295 into more than a 2 lane highway some time soon? Anyone else get stuck in that ridiculous jam yesterday heading north on the east beltway? TWO HOURS from Phillips Highway up to I-95. I couldn't help but look to my left and see about 300 yards of grass between the northbound and southbound lanes, surely they could add a third or even a fourth lane all through way through town...

It used to be 1 lane back in the day, in fact, it used to have lights too! And before that it didn't even exist.

Ugh. With all the expansion down south here in SJC I imagine something has to be at least in the planning phase. The 9B connection from Phillips to 295 sure is nice, although hitting 295 is typically a mess.

Let's hope that if/when they do widened I-295 it will after I-95 downtown is done!

Florida2014 - were you stuck on 295 on Thursday or Friday? Friday's mess would have still been a mess even with more lanes because of the multi-car accident near Beach Blvd.

295 east/9A is still only 2 lanes? I always figured the southside would always have more traffic then the northwest side. 295 west has been 4 lanes for years, even the Buckman was 4 lines both ways.

Some of it, most of it I'd say, is 3 lanes actually. But the configurations are strange in places which makes it feel tighter.

Some spots have 3 lanes but for some reason they merge into 2 lanes for long stretches. The whole thing is a mess.
