Family-friendly Neighborhoods
Family-friendly Neighborhoods
My family and I may be moving to the area this summer. I am currently working with a teaching program that may place me in this area for the 2008-2009 school year. Possible areas of placement are Houston, Jacksonville, Charlotte, and Miami.
We are a family in our 30’s with three daughters ages 8, 5, and 1. We currently live in Indiana, but we have lived in Jacksonville, FL, Melbourne, FL, and Hampton, VA in previous years. We are looking for a family-friendly area / neighborhood with affordable housing. At first, we will want to rent a home of 3-4 bedrooms 1.5 + bathrooms, preferably 1600 + SF. Rent rang up to $1,200 max, preferably less than that. We currently live in a 4 BR, 2.5 BA on 3 acres with an in ground pool. Of course, we understand this is not going to be the case there, at least not renting at first.
Any suggestions on neighborhoods, schools, areas that are best for our family?
Thanks to all!

St. Augustine is a great neighborhood to relocate to. They have affordable 3 bedroom apts at $826 a month at Whispering Woods Apts. They are about 1200 to 1300 sqft, with a pool, fitness center, and they are gated. I lived there at one point and I loved it. Very quiet community and the elementary school which is right next door (Osceola) was fantastic!

amerikanchic, not to offend you, but are you the manager at Whispering Woods? You mention them in 3 different threads. Out of curiosity, I looked at them and they don't impress me. Especially when I saw they were HUD Section 8 housing. Judging from several comments on the apartment reviews the current residents don't think too highly of them either, and yes I know there are complainers everywhere.
I understand everyone has different opinions on apartments, just voicing mine.

Agreed! With children as young as yours, you'll probably want to avoid a long commute. I understand you not wanting to give the name of the school, but perhaps you could find out what 'area' of Jax it is in, so you can get more specific responses regarding options for you to consider.

Thanks everyone! When we lived in Jax three years ago, we lived in the Baymeadows area. I'm thinking that Mandarin is going to be our speed.
Thanks again!
