I've heard that 95 gives you a straight shot into downtown area, and that it can be faster to get to downtown than if you are in Mandarin due to congestion. Any suggestions on good neighborhoods in Saint Johns that are close to 95 and would give me a fast trip downtown?

St Johns Golf & Country Club is very convenient to I-95 and located just off the first I-95 exit south of Duval County

In a few year's time, State Road 9B (which will eventually become Interstate 795) will be constructed all the way to its terminus in St. Johns County at County Road 2209, about a mile or 2 north of County Road 210.

There will be an on ramp to 9B on CR 2209 immediately north of the back gate to the St. Johns Forest community. Immediately after you cross into Duval County on 9B, there'll be an on ramp to 95 North (just south of Old St. Augustine Road)

At that point, St. Johns Forest will probably have the shortest commute, and Durbin Crossing will be right behind it.

It really depends on what time you are leaving. From St. Johns, you want to try to avoid having to take San Jose to 295 to 95 which is painful, and avoid getting onto 95 via Old St. Augustine Road which is also painful. I do not know how difficult it is to get on 95 N in the morning from 210 but it has to be easier than the other methods above.

RSWATTY is right about the future, the official State Road 9B website (yes it exists) says the 9B extension to St. John's will be completed in 2018 though.

I live off Race Track and take San Jose through Mandarin up to downtown in the morning and 95 back home at night.
