Relocation to Jax
I know that a million people have asked a similar question, but I am going to ask anyway!!! I may be getting a great job offer this week to relocate to Jacksonville from NY. I spent all day today, and will to it again tomorrow, driving around different areas.
I am in my mid-thirties, in a relationship and do not have children, so I prefer a more "urban" area with young professionals. Assuming I get the job, I will be working near Deerfield Park Blvd on the southside. I think I have narrowed down my choices to Riverside or San Marco. How would the commute be?
How is the restaurant/night life scene in each area?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

you could buy one of those new hi rise units in the urban core, the night life is ok but nothing like you'll find in NY.

You did not indicate what area of NY you are from. If NYC, apvb is absolutely right, you won't find anything like NYC.
As for San Marco, it is a good area for walking around, and a lot of very good restaurants. The area is on the pricey side, most homes are older and well built. There are condos available, both new, refurbished, and established. Riverside is also an interesting area to live in, most folks seem to think that 5 points is an excellent area for walking. You might also want to check out Avondale, it is more pricey than Riverside, also very good restaurants.
I'm guessing from San Marco to Deerwood area would be about 30 minutes - but that's just a guess. Tack on another 15 or so from Riverside/Avondale, it's just across the river from San Marco.
Best of luck with the job offer, and keep us posted.

San Marco would be physically closer to your workplace than Riverside.
If you lived in Riverside you'd have to make your way through Downtown to get to the Southside where you'll be working....not too bad, just more of a commute (agreatlife described it well).
Riverside is a little edgier than San Marco - check out the Five Points section of Riverside to see what I mean (funky shops, etc.). For an NYC reference, if San Marco is Greenwich Village, Riverside is the East Village, maybe even Alphabet City in parts.
