Moving to Jacksonville Fl 6/07 Need help in finding out good locations to
Hello All!
I am planning on moving to Jacksonville Fl in June 2007! I have lived in Boston my entire life and I am preparing my self for some culture changes.
What I really need help with is figuring out where I will fit in the best! I will soon be divorced. So it will be the first time in my life I will be living alone. I know everyone says "I want a safe neighborhood" but trying to figure our where they are is another story.
All help is appreciated!

We're moving there, too. The St. Johns County area, south of Jacksonville, seems nice, particularly the Julington Creek Plantation community plan. Parts of Southside are nice, too. You'll hear this from everyone else, I'd imagine, but I've read to stay away from the Northwest side of Jax. Seems that's the dangerous area. Best of luck!

I have some wonderful memories of the times I have spent in Boston,
I was single when I moved down here 14 years ago. I would recommend the Southside or Beaches I have lived in both areas and have never had concerns about my safety. Also both places I have lived have had a mix of single folks and families
Jacksonville is such a growing city you are more likely to meet a transplant than someone who was born here . You didn't mention if you were looking for a house, condo or apartment. There are tons of options in all 3.
Please feel free to let me know if there is any specific questions you may have
a early welcome to town

Thank you Karla!
I am looking a buying a single family home, maybe a townhouse? Really do not want to pay condo fees. I have had my own home for the past 16 years and enjoyed having my yard and space.
If I am looking in Southside or Beaches how far is that from South Point Pkwy. I currently work for Comcast and will be looking to take a transfer down to that area.

where we live on the southside is about 15 mins from southpoint.
the beach would be, depending on what time you leave, maybe 30 mins
you want to watch the townhouses they have monthly fees like the condos
lol to bad you aren't moving sooner there is a heck of a deal on a house in our subdivision, military couple being transfered dropped it $68k below appraisal.
there are some terrific areas I can recommend if you want to send me a pm or email with the budget you are thinking of i can be more specific
I did allot of research before we bought this house and would be glad to share what I found

Hi Karla! Curious...how much are they asking for the house that dropped $68k below appraisal? My husband and I are probably most interested in Julington Creek for various reasons, such as so that we can be in the St. John's school district and for him to be closer to the base, but we'd like to hear about that house in your neighborhood, too. Thanks so much! Hope all is going well regarding your upcoming move to GA!

hey Jen
nice to hear from you. are you gettign excited !!!
I have ment to send you a email with the "adventure" of our move I will send that today along with a link for you to look at.
Actually believe it or not living right around our area would be faster to base than driving 13 from JC unless he will be leaving at 6 am
I can be from my front door to the base in about 25 mins

Thanks, Karla! Good to know regarding the traffic to the base. Thanks again for all the info about Jax! It's exciting to move there and start a new phase of life, but I get sad about leaving California, too.
I hope they work everything out regarding your new house in GA. Take care!

I would definately stay south or east of the river (or Riverside/Avondale just west of downtown).
I used to work in Southpoint...traffic is a bear at 5pm, but once you make it out of there you should be ok.
There's a good website for looking at homes, other than Realtor-dot-com.
Google middlekauff assist 2 sell and select the first entry.
If you search under the MLS listings, it gives you a good way to seach, plus a map....
you can search by zip code...here are some good ones (and the general area they cover)
32204, Riverside
32205, Avondale
32207, San Marco
32217, San Jose
32223, Mandarin
32224, Southside
32246, Southside
32250, Beaches
32256, Mandarin/Baymeadows/Southside
32257, North Mandarin/Beauclerc
32258, Mandarin
32259, Julington Creek/NW St. Johns County
Feel free to let me know if I missed any
