St. Augustine vs. St. Augustine Beach
Could someone please tell me the difference between St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach? (Crime, appearance and architecture, city life, etc.)

They're very close physically, so there won't be much difference in crime or city life.
The architecture between historic downtown (some buildings dating to the 16th century) and St. Augustine Beach (1950's, 60's, 70's...) are going to be vastly different, but it's all "St. Aug" in feeling.
You really need to visit and see it firsthand. It's a destination for travelers worldwide for a reason, so it's hard to sum it all up in a succinct manner.
It's a great place to visit, the reality of actually living in the parts you visit (such as Downtown St. Aug) is something else entirely. Most people end up living in St. John's County at large, not really in any of the tourist destination parts of St. Augustine proper.

I live and work in Saint Augustine and I love this town. The people are down to earth and have been good to me. We came for a visit on vacation and my husband could not get the town out of his mind. The beach is my husbands passion and he has an interest in history. I love it cause it is small unlike Jax and the traffic is not too bad.

Love St. Augustine
We isited St. Augustine about eight years ago and I fell in love with it. I actually cried when we left. Love the history, architecture, and yes the touristy atmosphere. Currently I live and work in a small historical "Main Street" town outside of Pittsburgh PA, where I run a small Chamber of Commerce
We are making plans to move to St. Augustine in the next couple of months. Need to find a job, first. After reading Jax boards last night, I am now very concerned about the job market. I will be looking in the event planning, marketing, adminstrative and non-profit areas, with a salary in the 35-40 range. Is this realistic?

Jobs like the ones you're looking for are highly competitive in St. Johns County and Jacksonville. Communications, specifically PR and advertising, majors are being pumped out by the local colleges and universities by the hundreds every semester. Arm yourself with experience and a great resume and be prepared to hunt long and hard. I have many friends who have been laid off from their non-profit and for-profit pr and marketing jobs because those budgets are usually the first to get slashed. Good luck with your hunt.

I am moving to st Augustine in about six months, from Georgia. I am disabled and not wealthy. Does anyone know about the crime and people at Ponce harbor apts? It isn't upscale, but I am merely looking for clean and safe. Does anyone have recommendations for other low income communities in st aug?

My situation is similar to anonymousMe as far as moving into a low income community. What about Whispering Pines or Whispering Woods? My daughter and I are moving from Michigan and are considering St. Augustine. We have thought alot about moving to FL and even went down there once but came back. The whole hurricane & alligator/snake scares us but we have horrible winters and live in an upscale neighborhood but have rats up here and we LOVE the beach. My sister lives near Orlando so as far as hurricane water damage, she has experienced that by her windows leaking and soaked her carpet and she lost power. I think we are at the point of thinking nothing's perfect, it's a matter of being where you want to be. While Michigan is familar, we're very tired of being here. I lived in Orlando in the 80's and enjoyed the happier feeling people seem to have there. If anyone has any advice, please feel free to share. Thanks!

What are the nicest residential neighborhoods in St. Augustine city? One of my criteria would be that they aren't in high car-traffic areas. The second would be that they are within 7 or 8 minutes' walking distance to a food market.
