Hi everyone. I'm very happy to have found this forum. My husband and I are planning to move to the Jacksonville area from the caribbean. Of all the Florida cities I've visited, it seems to be the best one for us.
I've seen from other threads that the southside is the best area, thank God I found out in time, we were looking for housing in the west area!!!! you know away from hurricanes.... We need a home with at least a 1/2 acre so my husband can practice his race car engine building hobby without bothering the neighbors. Is there an area where this is possible and still be near a good school for our 8yr son. Are there school programs for kids with Spanish as their first language?. He knows fairly enough English, but not enough to all of a sudden change languages on him. We are of course practicing with him, but I'm very concern that the change may set him back. Has anyone been in this situation? Anyways, I will continue to read and enjoy all of your threads. Thanks everyone for reading... |

I dont think you should have any concerns with your son, the school i teach at once a week they have special english as second language tutors. The really cool thing i saw last week in the class was a new student who only spoke spanish was being helped by a student who spoke both and this was 2nd graders. As far as where to live you are probably not going to want to look for a subdivision with a home owners assocation they can be weird about the race car thing there are some areas on the southside that have some land and no HOA some areas in Manderian and fruit cove might be worth a look karla |
