I agree on Clark's Fish Camp for dinner. For breakfast, check out the Beach Hut Cafe on 3rd St (A1A) in Jax Beach, between Beach Blvd. and JTB. It's kind of a "greasy spoon," but it has a down-home feeling, and it is definitely a locals kind of place.

There is a little, out-of-the-way lunch place on St. Augustine Rd. near University called Taste Buds that is a good example of local.

A little off topic....Wasn't there a waitress at Beach Hut named Barbara who raised enough money to build an entire village of homes in Jamaica?

I gotta second Clarks Fish Camp. We LOVE it.

Another favorite of ours is The Outback Crab Shack. Which is NOT to be confused with the cheesy national chain "Joes Crabshack" which is located in Atlantic beach. Outback Crab Shack - St. Augustine, FL - Home

And of course we can't leave out Whitey's Fish camp. http://www.whiteysfishcamp.com/

Granted we prefer Clarks, Whitey's and The outback crabshack when traveling by boat.....

If you are going to look to Riversaide/Avondale, then the Fox Restaurant (really it's a diner) isperfect for breakfast. However, be sure to get there earlier on the weekend, and people line up out the door.

How about "European Street" on San Marco Blvd for lunch if you happen to be up that way. Couple o' brats w/hot potato salad ... yum, yum ... wash 'em down w/couple o' brews from the continent ... chug, chug!

Default Metro Diner

There's also Metro Diner "where the locals eat" in San Marco.

First place I ever ate grits at.
