Fernandina Beach is a county away and it really feels it. From Fernandina, you'd be closer to the Georgia line than you would to the Duval county line (Jax). It's nice....but far.
Other family friendly places "outside" of the big city?
Well, Jax is predominantly suburban and family friendly in itself. Inside of the "city" border you can find plenty of suburban life and even rural life.
The only was to get completely
out of the city is to get out of the county....they are one in the same here

. You can look to the other 2 neighboring counties of St. John's (St. Aug area) and Clay county. These would put you "outside" of the city of Jacksonville, but you'll be adding onto your commute time. Still, they would be better to commute from than Fernandina Beach.
