Everbank is being sold to TIAA. What effect do you think it will have on Jacksonville?

Initially none. TIAA's aim is to get into retail banking/lending and I suspect that it will be business as usual with Everbank for quite a while. TIAA has also bought other companies such as Nuveen and they still operate independently. Maybe down the line there will be name changes and some personnel additions but imo that's a ways out.

I am cautiously optimistic that this is a good thing for Jax. We lose some cache, branding and maybe a few csuite jobs, but if all goes as they say then we should be getting a good number of new jobs as they consolidate all their banking operations here. Would be really awesome if they continue to buy more banks and relocate those here. The Chamber of Commerce is already trying to recruit them to move other departments as well.

Welcome to TIAA Field, Home of the Jaguars...

Be interesting to see what they change it to if they do change it at all.

I believe they will retain the Everbank name as even Everbank has far greater name recognition than TIAA (formerly TIAA-CREF) does. Unless you or a family member worked at a non-profit, government, higher ed, K-12 you've probably never heard of or done business with TIAA. They do have retail mutual funds and a brokerage service, but they pale in comparison to some of their competitors (Fidelity, for example).

But after the dust settles we'll likely know more. At this point it's all speculation.
