My husband and I are retired from law enforcement and we have a 14 yr old daughter. We are relocating from Kentucky and are looking to buy a small farm in the Lake City area and since Jax is the closest city can anyone give me some imput on things there. we have horses and hope it is a good place to be. I was told it is a small town which is OK with us, it is what we are used to. What is the weather like in the winter if there is such a thing?

I am a high school senior at Columbia High School (the larger of the 2 HS's in the County), here in Lake City. I know a lot of people who are into horses, etc, and CHS has a very good FFA program. Lake City is rather small, but it is growing for sure. There is still a LOT of open space and farmland around here though.

Weather wise, much like the rest of the state, summers are hot (80s-90s) and extremely humid, with 5 o'clock thunderstorms common. Every several years we go into a drought, and a couple years ago there were forest fires north of the city. As for winters, it can definitely get cold. In fact, this morning, it was 30 degrees when I left for school. I had to let my car sit and warm up, and scrape the ice from my windows. It can sometimes get as low as the teens at night, and in the 30s or 40s during the day. Today it did warm up to at least the 60s or 70s. We do have four seasons, especially compared to the southern parts of the state.

Hope that helps some. If you have any other questions I will try to answer them.

Default Run While You Can

I've been here for a year and a half and for the most part, the people are boring, the town is boring and there is no job market here. My wife and I are in low income apartments cause of not finding work. She at least works but I remember when we drove in town. I wish we had of done what our first instinct to do was...RUN RUN RUN!

Right now I'm stuck here, bankrupt and without a job (very long story).

Unless you were born and bred here, no one wants anything to do with you.

On the weekends, anyone who is anyone gets in their car and goes somewhere else. Jacksonville, Gainesville, Valdosta, GA, Tallahassee or Orlando. My wife and I are thinking of relocating to Orlando if I can pick up a job.

I wish we had of received fair warning before coming to this god awful pit (from overhead it is in a pit...been in a helicopter and seen it).
