At eighteen I found myself living in Jacksonville on the Northside, on MONCRIEF. I was scared sh**less. I managed to keep to myself and never had any real problems. (Except for one time at the laundrymat, an argument over a dryer) I never had a hard time finding TEMP work, but it took me six months to find a decent paying job at WAMU all the way on Baymeadows. If you are a man with a good skill there are plenty of high paying jobs, in the manufacturing or construction sectors.

But the crime on the Northside is awful. The crime on the Westside is pretty bad too, but better concealed. I wouldnt blame the residents of these parts of town for there lifestyle (not 100%) Jacksonville is a very racist town and many people have recieved handout after handout from local charities and the government. There is a real sense of entitlement among Jacksonville's poor and the local churches cater to homeless in a BIG way. Jacksonville is Florida's best example of the bad effects cycles of poverty, ignorance and crime can have on families and communities.

If you are coming down here please:

1. Dont come down here whining about how "slow" it is down here.

2. Or how hot it is.

3. Or that you want to go back up north.

4. and for the life of me drive faster than 25 MPH!!

If that sounds ok to you then Com' on down! We welcome ya' with open arms, but If I had a nickel for everytime I hear a Northener whining, I'd be rich.

This post is already up to 13 pages, which is well past where we're supposed to consider closing it.

The issue will come up again (crime), it always does, so we'll close this one for now.
