Booked another room in Santee, SC in addition to Gainesville. We also plan to leave on Saturday rather than Sunday.

Last year, St Johns County issued the mandatory evacuations on Wednesday 10/5/2016. Matthew hit Friday afternoon on 10/7/2016. I'm expecting similar timing this year if an evacuation is issued (ie. ~ Friday 9/8/2017).

St. Johns County is providing free sandbags beginning tomorrow at noon. 20 bags per person. Bring your own shovel.

News reports still forecasting a dramatic turn to the north, so at this point we are ready but still so many variables.

Going to get interesting if Irma does indeed turn and those who were aitting on the fence whether to leave or not finally hit the highways.

My sis decided to stay. Trying to talk her out of it.
She is reporting all stores on the Westside are put of water.

As a former Jax resident, I would be gone already. The longer you wait, the more the highways and interstates fill up and the more hotels are booked.

Weather forecasters are very good at their jobs, and I believe what they say. I don't need an official to tell me whether or not I should leave.

I haven't really researched it but that comes from reading the forums recently.
Had a convention at WGV years ago - really nice place. Enjoy.
We are "high and dry". Do not require flood insurance but bought it for $450 per year and just paid for our renewal.

Is Tallahassee far enough west for evacuation or should I look towards Panama City FL?

If the hurricane gets into the Gulf, Tally may well get a lot of the storm. We are an hour east of Tally, and are worried. We both got Hermine last year. We were without power 3 days, but my niece who lives in Tally was without power for 7 days. Best of luck to you. It's a hard decision for everyone trying to figure out what Irma is going to do. Ugh.

11:00 AM update show winds at 180 MPH.........South Florida is not looking good right now especially the Keys.
It's a fight between a ridge of high pressure well to our northeast and a low well to our northwest. If the high weakens the storm could turn more to the east. If the low to our west speeds up it could help take the storm more to the east.

Why would you consider anywhere on the coast at all?

Go north, out of Florida.

This morning the American and Euro models have shifted Irma further east, which is good news for Jacksonville. Still nowhere near being out of the path yet but sounds like the odds are now in favor of a direct S FL hit, then turning NE into the Carolinas.

Leaning now towards staying if this turns into simply heavy rain and Cat 2 wind. But we aren't on a coastal community either, we are west of 95. Keeping those Georgia hotel reservations just in case.
