Still looking around the Jacksonville area. I found a home on over an acre of land on Trout River Blvd. Is this a sketchy area too?

You can find good prices on the water there, but crime is high.

Are you looking for a home to live in, or purely as an investment?

The reason I'm looking for something economically priced is because it will be a second home for when I want to get away. However, if I have to worry about vandalism it probably would be more costly in the end. I don't know...how do people buy second homes?? Eventually, I wouldn't mind moving altogether, but certainly not in a high crime neighborhood. What type of crimes???

I know people who live near there (to the east) near a park. They don't seem to have a problem with crime, but he's a p/t cop, so maybe that's why.

Where on Trout River Blvd is it?

If it's a second home, have you considered an older condo? This way you can essentially lock the door and leave...far less worries.

Jacksonville and the Jacksonville area is no longer the bargain it once was. 10 years ago you could pick up a modest single family home in a nice safe area for 5 figures, but this is no longer the case. I can't think of an area I'd feel safe in where you can find a home for much less than $150k, and I'm talking about small, modest, fixer-upper homes. The homes that cost half that much in Jacksonville are all in bad/dangerous areas, that's just the way it is.

There are some older, outdated condos that are still "bargains" in terms of their asking price, sometimes even out near the beach. Considering your budget, you might want to considering going that route and waiting on the single family home until you move here full-time.

But yes, I would imagine West Virginia is going to be a lot less costly than here.
