Looking for the professionals in Jacksonville
I have been reading the posts but not have found one quite with what I am looking for. So I am an African American woman and will be moving to Jacksonville in June or July. I have just finished graduate school and will be working at Mayo Clinic.
I got a realtor and she has recommended the Southside. I am looking for an area relatively close to Mayo, relatively close to things i.e. shopping, movies, gym and nightlife. Also, I am looking for a diverse neighborhoood of professionals with white and black people. Does that exist in Jacksonville?
Also my realtor has recommended Paradise Island, Aventine at Deerwood, these new Bridgehampton condos, Bay Club and St. John's Plantation. They seemed a little high especially Bridgehampton, I was expecting less due to Jacksonville's cost of living. Are those the best places or are there better ones? Please pm me with specific names.
Thanks for all your help and I am so excited about the move!!

I lived in Paradise Island when I gratuated 10 years ago, soon after it was built. It was a diverse place for professionals, but not sure of the make up now.
Southside/9A area near Baymeadows should be a pretty goog place for you.
Very close to Tinseltown area, with bars/some nightspots, and movies. Close to St. Johns town center. Proably about 10-15 to Mayo (although the traffic on Southside is a mess. I would try to live east of S'Side BLVD.
Good luck, and Welcome to Jax.

Jacksonville is well-mixed among ethnicities of all, including professionals. I would agree with the other poster that you might consider looking around the Tinseltown and the Deerwood areas; many nice condos and apartments, great shopping areas, theatres, restaurants, gyms and nightlife are in the area. I don't know a lot of specific community names, but Il Villagio and Portofino come to mind (never checked them out but they appear to be nice). Your realtor should be able to steer you around the area. Welcome to Jax!
