Hello All,
I am moving to Callahan in Febuary for a fresh start on life. I have some family there but I was wondering just how life really is over there. I will be coming with no job or house. I need to find both. Can anyone give me any advice? Thanks, Heather ![]() |

What kind of job do you need to get...Callahan isn't far from Jax if you are looking for a professional career.
THe commute shouldn't be too bad. |

Hi Heather,
What type of job are you looking for? I lived in Yulee for 3 years and my job took me to Callahan quite often. A good place to start may be the Chamber of Commerce in Callahan. It's the West Nassau Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Director is Louise. She's a fantastic resource for all things Nassau County! |

to erin1264 -
you said you lived in Yulee for 3 years. I am thinking of moving there from Jax. Can you tell me your thoughts on Yulee. It seems like a slow, small town. Amelia/Fernandina seem quaint and historical, but I've been searching for info on Yulee and can't find anything! Do they have a movie theater, a mall, etc... What kind of people live there? rednecks (can't believe I just said that!), hunters, surfers??? I have 2 teen boys and want to purchase a new home in a new subdivision (a lot of those springing up in Yulee for a great price!) but worry that the boys won't have much to do. What about the new Yulee High and the middle school - any knowledge on either of those? We do like all of the free festivals, historical places, fort clinch, BUT what else is there to do in your opinion... Will I miss the beauty of downtown Jax? Your thought would greatly be appreciated! p.s. I don't have to worry about commuting - I telecommute and work out of my home. Last edited by lisa.home; 01-10-2007 at 02:42 AM. Thanks for all the great help. I have worked at Walmart for 5 years as a cake decorator. I am good with computers and I love to organize everything I touch. Guess I would be good in an office setting too. But I would really love to continue decorating......
...but that is the kind of job that you just fall into with great luck. I can't transfer to another walmart because I am suing them I can see myself working in a nice quiet office somewhere typing all day... Anyways, hope to be there soon. I have been looking online for apartments, but no one will let me keep my dog "maxine" she's a rottie mix, not very big, only 55 pounds. But no one wants a rottie in there building even though she wouldn't hurt a flea..lol.. we have had her for 5 years now and I couldn't even think of leaving her behind.. ..well maybe it will all work out soon. Thanks, Heather ![]() |

Sorry, Heather but my gramps on my dad's side was from upstate NY and built a wood processing facility in Callahan in 1936. My other gramps was from an old New England swamp-yankee family that moved from CT after the civil war to south GA and gramps settled in Callahan in 1906. Both gramps were trained as MD's. My mom was valedictorian at Callahan HS in 1936. And she married the son of the NY state gramps. My dad was born in Buffalo NY and built a house in Callahan right after WW II. Then they moved away for a while, but we have roots there and in Nassau County. So much for the idea that Callahan doesn't have any Yanks. It just doesn't know a swamp-yankee when it sees one because we blend in real well! And, yes, though we blend in we also is edjekated!
