I have been to two temp agencies that shall remain nameless (cough shameless cough) I have been given ridiculous runarounds by both of these. One place offered me a position i couldn't get to for lack of transportation and another place would never return my calls, even though they stated they had the "perfect" job for me. I score very well on their computer competency tests etc, yet i keep getting offers that never go through. I know it's not due to my resume, as that has gotten several compliments. However, i do lack a lot of experience due to devoting most of my time to education and other interruptions. Gaps in employment, lack of experience and lack of transportation may play a part in the difficulty, BUT something also tells me that i'm picking rather sucky agencies. ( Also, I was told that being without a car wouldn't be a problem as long as i had an easy reliable bus route...eventually i'd purchase a vehicle once i made enough to do so ) I'm starting to think i'm just called in to meet a quota of some sort, when i go to these places. I've heard stories about some of these places calling people in just to get their names and contact info to sell to businesses. I know i'm competent and even over qualified for some of the jobs they offer, so i'm truly perplexed.
So, given all that, can anyone recommend a reliable temp agency on the south side of Jacksonville? It would be highly appreciated. I'm doing everything in my power to avoid retail and i'd like to get back in school. Thanks in advance! ![]() Last edited by Abrie79; 05-15-2008 at 02:35 PM. |

It's pretty tough without cars, have you looked around for business immediately around you? There's been quite a layoff in town so I'm imaging the temp agencies are full of people but business aren't hiring as much, except retail. Also I can tell you that most places don't bother looking at computer test results. There's a European company opening a new office by Belfort, was in the news the other day. I'm sure you're already using the classified ad...
Retail can get you by the rough times though, see if Costco is hiring. |

What kind of job are you looking for? I know of a few that work in specialized fields, but the lack of transportation will be an issue.

Jackaroo: Anything clerical based, phones, filing, data entry, nothing fancy. I'm open to new tasks, but nothing that requires lifting 10 pounds and up on a regular basis. I see a few retail shops hiring and i'm very close to applying, but exhausting my options before I do.
Travelingfood: Yeah, i have a friend who may be facing a layoff or an immense budget cut. It's insane. I haven't gotten any word about that European company, do you know what kind of business they're opening up? I'll have to google it. |

Deutsche Bank was just in the news. The City is currently trying to coerce them to choose Jax as their new hub. There will be about 950 new jobs created averaging 49K for investment banking and tech jobs. It isn't expected to open until 2011, though.
