All the aforementioned neighborhoods are wonderful and close to downtown; the exception? Springfield; high crime area.

You may also want to check out Murray Hill, much more affordable than San Marco, Avondale or Riverside and is ajacent to the Avondale area. The zip code for Murray Hill is 32205.

If you do choose Avondale or Riverside look into joining and getting involved in Riverside Avondale Preservation, RAP, you'll meet so many of your neighbors and certainly become a member of this tight knit, diverse community quickly. Here's their website... Riverside Avondale Preservation And yes, I'm biased about my neighborhood, I grew up in Avondale and love it !!

Regarding the beach; it's very expensive and your comute downtown to work could be an hour or more depending on your work hours, not too sweet with gas prices presently. Good Luck!

I plan on moving to Jacksonville in August. I am moving to teach in Duval County Public schools. It looks like I will be needing a roommate to live comfortably? How are apartments about sharing leases?
