Does anybody have any suggestions for trying to figure out what to do for work that is a happy enjoyable job with nothing sad involved? I just recently left a job due to my upcoming relocation to Saint Johns County this weekend, the job involved the families, children and the court system, I am very, very ready for something uplifting and happy. I don't have to work but I would love to work at something that I could be passionate about. God, my husband, and my children are my world, one day my children will be grown and gone and I need to work on finding something that I can be good at and love when that day comes. I think that this will help me be a better mom and wife as well.
I'd appreciate any suggestions. |

Well the thing about the daycare is that my kids aren't small anymore and I don't think that I have the patience anymore to do anything in the vicinity of a daycare. I'll be 44 Thursday, the older I get and the more that I have to take my kids to do, the less amount of patience that I have for some reason.
As far as animals go, I love them, but that's not for me either. And plants...sometime I imagine that working in a small little cozy modern place with plants in a really neat area would be fun. Volunteer? I did that for a while at one of my kids schools for about a year. And even though I don't necessarily have to work right now (by the way, I have worked all of my life and I think that I am going to go nuts if I don't do something), but it would be nice to make some extra money on the side. Would you believe that I don't know what I like to do, I don't have a clue. I've been so involved with trying to make sure that everything runs smoothly at my house that I suddenly have no idea about anything about myself. How lame is that?! The thing about "running smoothly at my house", it's like a challenge for me to keep everything done that needs to be done and making sure that everybody is where they need to be when they need to be there. It's nuts sometimes. Does anybody know an easy 1-2-3 process from a website or something that will help me figure out the perfect hobby or something that I could do? |

You're in a good place.
Why not get in touch with Volunteer Jax and ask of there is a similar agency in St. Johns county? If you volunteer in a place that sounds interesting, you will get a feel for the vibes of the staff and a better sense of the work that they do. Sounds as though you like kids, even if not wanting to spendhours on end with little ones. In Jax there is the Jax Youth Chorus- very positive and always in need of volunteers. Or how about events? Again, not sure about SJ, but the jazz festival, for instance- takes months to put together and then it is over. If you aren't needing full-time work, it might be fun to take on projects. A number of years ago I was in your position and took on a project. Then it was over and another came my way, then another. The next thing I knew, my husband said something about my business. What business, I asked. I had been getting paid for all kinds of projects (grants, workshops, non-profit work) for seven years....never considered it my business! And when I wanted downtime, I just turned work down. |
