I was searching the web trying to find out what the noise laws are in Jacksonville in regards to car steros when I found this page:

Noise Control

From there I click on the second link from the bottom which took me to this 35 page PDF file:
http://www.coj.net/NR/rdonlyres/eqs5...EPB+Rule+4.pdf

If you go down to page 23 is where it deals with motor vehicles. I see listings for tire, horns, and exhaust systems but I don't see anything about car steros. I don't even see anything as far as a dB level but if you go just below that to motorcycles they have a dB level for that.

Am I missing something or is it just not there?

I don't believe Jacksonville has an ordinance against it. However, the State does.

Title XXIII MOTOR VEHICLES

Chapter 316 STATE UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL

316.3045 Operation of radios or other mechanical soundmaking devices or instruments in vehicles; exemptions.--
(1) It is unlawful for any person operating or occupying a motor vehicle on a street or highway to operate or amplify the sound produced by a radio, tape player, or other mechanical soundmaking device or instrument from within the motor vehicle so that the sound is:
(a) Plainly audible at a distance of 25 feet or more from the motor vehicle; or
(b) Louder than necessary for the convenient hearing by persons inside the vehicle in areas adjoining churches, schools, or hospitals.

The penalty is a non-criminal violation. I don't know the fine off the top of my head, but I believe it's well under $100.00. I recently read that there's a bill being introduced to up the fine and bump the severity up to a moving violation that carries points on the license.

Careful.

If there really is a bill, supporting it will get you labeled as a racist.

The bill has HUGH opposition from ABATE,AMA,all your aftermarket motorcycle manufactures, and Harley Davidson,Honda ect. Because of the exhaust issue. They have been stalling it for quite awhile. Also at one time if I remember correctly it included weedeaters,leaf/grass blowers.I due hate the loud car radios. They don't enjoy the music at the high volume. It distroyes the car.And I wonder what are the long term effects it has on the human body?

A different Generation of music lovers, that is for sure! They like to tilt their seats back really far and, of course, it's not cool to wear a seat belt (to them)! RAP music or Hip Hop playing so loud you'd think these kids have a hearing problem.

Not exactly Jacksonville just had a young man murderered for playing loud music, I am not sure if the issue is that serious to warrant death, but Im sure there are more passionate control freaks out there.

You can't do anything. If you don't like it leave! B/C we turn it up for Jordan Davis! No1 should be killed for turning up their favorite song as said on 93.3 the beat. You will not get past your HOA, trying to exert your control here.
