Default Best Beaches near Jacksonville?

Hi - we're new in town and we LOVE it here. It's a beautiful city and we love all the outdoor recreation opportunities. Can anyone suggest the really great beaches around here? Willing to drive an hour or so to find a beach that is more natural, less tourist-y. Going out to JAX beach is nice and quick just to see and hear the water, but all the highrise condos, stores, cars takes away from the experience.

If you want some privacy away from condos, you might want to check out Guana State reserve. I believe awhile back some said that was a little risky, and here is the Burma Shave ad I wrote back then:

When looking at beaches
Be careful where you head
It's nice to have peace
But please don't wind up dead
... Jacksonville

I'll leave the rest to our other august members!

Ugh! No fair, that was a husband killing his wife and he's ruined the name of Guana Park forever!

I love Guana, it's a beautiful beach. I'm also a big fan of Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park - really nice .

We camped at that park when we came house hunting. The beach is really nice. Also if you go a little further south you can drive and park on the beach but only up by the dunes.

We live on 210 and go to Micklers beach alot too. It has alot of shells and at high tide there isn't that much beach but at low tide there are some really nice sand bars the kids love playing on.

Any other local beaches with less crowds and less commercialism? I don't care if I have to pay for admission/parking.
