Need major work on my car's A/C .... any recommendations for a mechanic or garage who's competent and affordable? I don't care about location - willing to drive to Nassau, Duval, St Johns counties. Had one estimate that made me choke, so I'm looking for a second opinion (problem presumably is a cracked evaporator something-or-other behind the dash board.)

sorry, I have no reccomendation, For a yardtick you should contact the dealership and see what they want to do the job. I do know that is a very expensive repair, the part is expensive and because of it's location the labor will be huge too, try and find someone who is will to use a part from a wreck, that could offer some savings.

We've had very good luck with a Goodyear Gemini store here in Mandarin. Have been going to them for over 15 years, and they have always done good work and been very honest. I don't know price wise how they compare but I do know they are cheaper than a dealership. They have worked on A/C on several of my cars over the years. DM me if you want the name of the store manager.

On our former Jeep - a money pit if there ever was one - we had Sears do some work. I found their prices to be decent and they knew their way around a Jeep, no easy task.

We've used various Sears locations on the Southside and been equally happy with them, so you could look to a Sears on your side of the river.

But with AC, if you need major parts, the dealer might come in very competitively.
