Relocating to the Jacksonville
Hey there, My family and I are relocating to the Jacksonville area. I have been searching the web for information regarding the schools and haven't quite found what I was looking for. My husband and I are looking to make this the place to raise our two children 8 and 7. I've found great information on elementary schools. After that, the information regarding the middle schools and high schools went down hill. I'm looking for a county with high performing schools and a safe haven to raise my children. My husband's needs are relatively simple - quite neighborhood with large yard.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm open all suggestions. We are looking to make the transition no later than June-July 2007.

My husband and I are also moving to that area in June of this year. We have decided that the St Johns County schools are the best in the area, and will be moving to St Augustine instead of Jacksonville since that seems like the most family friendly, safe area with great schools. They are building two brand new schools (elem, middle) to open this summer right down the block from the development we are considering. All of the schools in the area seem pretty good. Good luck!

I would also recommed St Johns county, not just St Augustine, but also Fruit Cove/Julington Creek. (Zipcode 32259) High performing top-rated schools and a very family oriented and involved community. Its away from all the traffic and its not quite as far as St Augustine. Homes range in this neighborhood from $250k on up to over $1 million. Its a great community to raise kids. Good luck with your move!

We are looking at an area in St Augustine called Heritage Landing, and so far the children from that development will go to the two new schools scheduled to open Aug 07, one elementary school, and one middle school. That is all I know right now, but that sounds good to me!!

Hello-
I plan on relocating to Jax sometime in 2008. I currently live in the W-DC area. I am married with 4 children + ****-zu. My children ages are 17, 14, 13, 11. The younger 3 are very excited about relocating, but I want to find a diversed safe neighborhood to relocate into.
My husband lived in Jax until the late '80s, he was a young boy then and now currently 39 does not remember alot. He does remember the beauty of the State of Florida and the bugs !
I have also read in the local newspapers about the increase in crime (murders, rape, robberies, drug-abuse etc) My husband is also a recovering addict and I just want to make sure that this is the right move for us. Could you tell me through your eyes what you really think about Jacksonville, Florida, recommended areas (North Jax, South Jax, West Jax, etc.), Hows the school system, what Government Agencies are there, reasonable home prices, racial tension, closest Seventh Day Adventist church.
Thanks

I just returned from a trip to Jacksonville and I most say I loved what I saw. I visited the elementary schools and thought they would suit my children just fine. There are more than enough homes on the market in St. John's County. My family will be leaving NY at the end of the school year.
This forum has equipped me with so much information. I was able to tell the realtor what areas I was most interested in despite great deals in other areas. We are so ready to step into a new phase of our lives.
