Default Moving To Jacksonville

Hello All,

I live in Nebraska and should be selling my home February or March of this year. I am debating whether or not to purchase a home in Jacksonville sight unseen or rent an apartment first.

I am looking at KB homes and Standard Pacific. I visited Jacksonville and I liked what I see. I am thinking of Clay and Yulee.

I have a son that is 14 and I am a Laboratory Technologist that will use my VA benefits to buy a home. Please advise.

Anne

Hi anne
Can you come out for another visit to check out the houses in the areas you are interested?
I personally would not buy a house sight unseen, even if I saw it on the internet.
While we were house hunting I can't tell you how many times the house did not look like the MLS.
The one nice thing is you can get a short lease here.
Also where will you be working ? that may have an affect on where you live.

a early welcome to Jax
p.s. it is going to be in the high 70's this weekend

Default Moving

I agree, with not buting a house sight unseen, but I was looking at some of the builders like KB homes and Richmond. I have no idea where I will be working. I know it would be one of the various hospitals in Jacksonville.

Overall, do you Jacksonville residents enjoy living in Jacksonville?

I love living here. With our weather you have some many different activites you can do year round.
We have lots of hospitals and Jax is such a large city landwise. Some of the hospitals are in better areas than others.
Are there any you have more interest in than others?
Here on the Southside we have Mayo clinic as well as St. Lukes.
Downtown there is Baptist Hospital, Wolfson Childrens as well as Nemours.
There is a good amount of new construction going on. But also keep in mind you can get a great deal on houses that are 4 or 5 years old.
Due to the two bases you have people transfering and can sometimes find a great deal.
We had a house in our neighborhood where the couple was transfered(military) and they priced the house $40k under apprasial to get it sold fast
Anywhere on the Southside and you will be 20 mins from the beach.
If you chose to live and the beach you would be about 25 to 30 mins to downtown.
The only hospital I am familar with in Clay county is Orange Park Memorial Hospital.

With having a son you want to make sure the areas you choose has good schools.
You can also check out St. Johns county the schools are pretty good.
