LOL! Me too! Just reading this thread and looking up stats on Alligator attacks in FL have assured me I could never live there. I don't want to live anywhere where something will kill me AND eat me. I need to be at the top of the food chain and not part of it.

I really don't intend to dismiss anyone's fear...but if people and animals were dying left and right due to Florida's fauna we wouldn't be faced with the challenges of over development. Actually, I maybe on to something here....perhaps I should do an about face and scream....WATCH OUT FOR ALL OUR GATORS AND POISONOUS SNAKES...they're EVERYWHERE and they're HUNGRY!!!

Oh thanks, that was nice. You need to get back into bed and get up on the other side. The only reason that we moved here is because of the opportunity that my husband got, he is so happy with his job here, he loves it here, and he supplies a service that is very helpful to this area (he especially makes sure that people like you and me don't get screwed. He has strong customer service ethics and is in a position to make sure that thousands of people aren't treated unfairly). I am trying my best here, work with me please. I was actually born in Coral Gables Florida but I have lived in Georgia for most of my adult life. So I am an official "Floridian", not a transplant, I've just been gone for a while and I was so young when I lived here that I don't remember anything about Alligators or Snakes. I'm just looking for helpful hints to help us if me or one of my kids come face to face with one of these things, that's all. You never know, what I learn about them could literally save our lives. Please be nice.

Ok, that only counts if you live in Texas ...only Texans care if you are a native or not. Geeze, I gave birth to two Texans, and they still called me a Yankee.

The only alligator I have encountered in the 16+ years I've lived in Florida have been in the Jacksonville zoo. I've seen more snakes than I care to (but can count them on one hand), but they were non-poisonous. At least, I think they were.
Our home backs up to wetlands, so I hear lots and lots of frogs at night. And, the sound of the whipperwhirl (spelling?) at night is beautiful.

Wow...I believe you read my post the wrong way. I'm certain you, your husband and your children are fine people...it was not my intention to challenge anyone's ethics or character and the first words of my post were that I did not intend to dismiss anyone's fears.

Oops, this is not the same person. There was a young man who lost his left arm because he was swimming in a canal and was attacked by an alligator. Sorry for any confusion.
