Is Gateway Pkway the main avenue? does anyone know the address or neighborhood of the bank? Is a car necessary?

Cathy,
You will definitely need a good, reliable car in Jacksonville. My personal preference is a vehicle with 4-wheel-drive or All-wheel-drive because we can get some crazy weather (though it has been quiet in the last few years). Plenty of people drive front or rear wheel drives though and do just fine. Gas mileage is of course as important here as anywhere, maybe even more important - we are a car-centric city .
I also moved here from NYC (Manhattan), and Jax is laid out very differently. It's like a big suburb - some urban parts, but mostly a mix of dense suburbs all the way to near rural suburbs. Think of Rockland and Orange counties in NY and you'll have a good picture.
As I understand it, Deutsche Bank will initially be located on Gate Parkway - just mapquest or googlemap "Gate Parkway, Jacksonville 32246" and you'll see the general area where Deutche Bank is going in (the exact address might be in earlier pages of this thread....I'm not sure ).
If you locate yourself near Gate Parkway, you won't be too far from anything - it's pretty central. In fact, it's very close to one of our newer hangouts, the Saint Johns Town Center. It's a shopping/restaurant area with some very upscale shopping (Louis Vuitton, Coach, etc.). You're also not too far from the beach, etc.
You did not mention a dollar amount, and that will certainly put some buildings in or out of your search. Sail Cove and some other spots were mentioned earlier in this thread, but I don't know what you want to spend . I'd suggest going onto realtor.com and searching the rentals in 32246, 32256 and maybe 32225.
The average apartment rental in Jax is around $725-$825 and more for upscale/amenity buildings. Anything for much less may not be in a very good/safe building.

Thanks, that's really great info, I thought I would be paying at least $900-950 for a 1 bedroom, what about night life?

another question, what area is that, as far when apartment searching? what are the "good/safe" apartment areas not far from where the Bank will be (if you know)?

Hi Cathy!
I like to use this JSO | Jacksonville Sheriffs Office Crime Map to see crime in any area. You can compare areas with it.
There are some websites that have apartment ratings but I think they are very skewed to the negative. People don't usually report on good stuff.
Good luck!

You should be able to find something very nice for $800, maybe for less than that. Also look for rental specials - some buildings are offering one free month's rent and other move-in specials.
Not all inclusive, but when I think of nightlife, I think of a few areas:
The Beaches: Lots of 20-somethings, but you'll find all ages. Casual, some great dive bars, fun and sometimes a little crazy. I like the irish bars out at the beach.
San Marco: Sophisticated (wine bars, galleries), all ages. Many of Jacksonville's best restaurants are clustered here.
Avondale: Smaller version of San Marco.
Riverside: Right next door to Avondale (they kind of run together), funky, artsy, edgy area. Look for "Five Points" to find the center.
Downtown: A small but growing collection of clubs, bars and restaurants, many of them catering to young professionals. Downtown is still a small scene, but there are some fun places there (Mark's, London Bridge).
Southside/Saint Johns Town Center: You'll find nightlife spread around the city, on the Southside and other parts of town, but a recent small cluster is at the outdoor shopping area, SJTC. There's a wine bar, some very nice restaurants, 3 or more Starbucks, etc. So it's a nice place to meet with friends and do some window shopping, grab some dinner, have a glass of wine.
Do an "advanced search" of the keyword "nightlife" and choose "Jacksonville" forum and you'll come up with tons of threads with specific recommendations of places to go .

furnished apartments near Duetsche Bank
Hey, question
I was informed that the bank's addy was 5022 S. Gate Pkway.
I am looking for furnished apartments, Espalande Condos, and The colony @ deerwood on Skinner Lake, any thoughts. just looking for something close to the shops and stores for everyday needs.
If you have any info on nice furnished apts. pls let me know, willing to pay $900+
pkway,
I was looking at Skinner Lake Dr and Midtown pkway apartments. By looking on the map, it doesn't look to far from the bank.

Can someone get me the name of an IT recruiter for DB? I currently work on the UBS Investment Bank trading floor supporting IT operations for Equities and Fixed income traders (been here 10 years). Things are getting pretty scary here with the lawsuits amounting and the extra $8-9 Billion in write downs coming (ontop of the $39 billion already announced). I have watched hundreds of people get fired. There is another round of layoffs which could be any of us working here. Most of my collegues are now looking to leave (but they want to stay up north). My parents live just outside of jacksonville so I have a temp place to stay till I find my own residence. If someone knows a recruiter or someone in the HR department for DB down there Please PM/Email me. I can relocate myself. Thank you for any responses...

I stay at Colony at Deerwood. It's nice. There are alot of young people who go to UNF here, but there are also alot of young professionals as well. Rent is about 750-850 here, but of course I came here when they were running a big special. It's generally about 850-860 for a one bedroom apartment. Right around this area there are alot of apartments, I'm sure you can leverage and possibly find a better deal than Colony if the price is at 850/month. I would recommend going down Touchton Rd, Gate Parkway all the way through, and maybe even Burnt Mill Rd (runs into Gate Parkway about 1 mile down the road going towards 9A). There are a ton of new apartment places being built along and near Gate Parkway.

Thanks,
I was just inquiring about Colony at Deerwood. I was told it's really spacious, I was told 1 bd room was about 850-875 for newer models. I was looking at Touchton Rd. but I see that Colony is right near St. Johns Center, and not too far from my work just looking for an apt near shopping so I won't stray to far just yet. I was looking to live around people my age under 30, where it's vibrant.
