Could you tell me a little more ?
Hello-
I plan on relocating to Jax sometime in 2008. I currently live in the W-DC area. I work for the Dept. of Treasury, am married with 4 children + ****-zu. My children ages are 17, 14, 13, 11. The younger 3 are very excited about relocating, but I want to find a diversed safe neighborhood to relocate into.
My husband lived in Jax until the late '80s, he was a young boy then and now currently 39 does not remember alot. He does remember the beauty of the State of Florida and the bugs !
I have also read in the local newspapers about the increase in crime (murders, rape, robberies, drug-abuse etc). I just want to make sure that this is the right move for us. Could you tell me through your eyes what you really think about Jacksonville, Florida, recommended areas (North Jax, South Jax, West Jax, etc.), Hows the school system, what Government Agencies are there, reasonable home prices, racial tension, closest Seventh Day Adventist church.
Thanks

We live in Glen St. Mary (Baker County) which is just west of Jacksonville ) since 1988. It is a great area to raise your kids and the schools are great. They love sports, politics and it is a friendly area. It does not have the crime problems that is in Jacksonville. It is a growing area and just got the Walmart Super Center. Land and home prices are still affordable for now. We can get to West Jacksonville in 28 minutes. We really like the Glenwood and Nursery Plantation areas of Baker County.

Jacksonville is great for kids
I moved to Jacksonville 3 years ago. Yes, they have bugs, like the rest of Florida but not as much as inland and south Florida. Actually gets cold in the winter. A lot of trees and quite pretty. Best area for family would be Mandarin with A schools and access to everything. St. John's County raves about family, school, etc but I find it too isolated. San Marco area is very nice, but more
high priced. As far as crime, I hear about it, but JAX is so spread out in size
it doesn't affect me much where I am in Mandarin. Pretty much stay away from certain areas in North Jax and West Jax if that is your concern. Traffic on
Blanding Blvd in Orange Park is terrible. We moved here from out West and my
son loves it. If you like the outdoors, sports(football and hockey) and wonderful weather this is the place for your family. If you are coming from D.C. area you
will be relieved and pleasantly surprised. Good Luck!

I second living in Mandarin- we are there, too. But there are some apartment complexes on Sunbeam that are not good and that area is often called Mandarin, too. Leigh Meadows is very scary. My son had a school friend who lived there and he went one time to play, but no more.

Help find my money
Hey there I am trying to find someone who can help me locate money that I earned when I worked for Publix back in 1974. I worked aver two years and was paying in either a profit sharing, stock, or credit union. I stopped paying into it not long after 1976. I was told that the money no matter in what fund it was will still be there and I need to find it.
Please if anyone out there knows who and how to find it please let me know. You can send a email to me at the following address runningdeer55@hotmail.com. I'm sure that they kept records and I would be fun to see what's there. Thanks

Jacksonville has the worst reputation for crime. I remember staying at this hotel with some friends in a band. Well, some people knocked on my friends hotel room and asked them if they wanted to have sex with this little girl. They told me she looked about 12 yrs. old. Her pimps lifted up her skirt and she was nude. My friend got so mad he called the cops. That's typical. I don't think it's a bad idea to work there, but I wouldn't, under any circumstances live there. I think St. Augustine is beautiful. If you have to live somewhere safe give St. Augustine a try. It's only 30 minutes to Jax, and it's SAFE. Jax really has a terrible crime rate. I could tell you story after story about all the crimes I have heard of, but I want I don't want to worry you. Trust me....Jax is a great place to visit...but don't live there. CRIME IS HORRIBLE

For the most part, crime is very neighborhood-determined. There are many areas that are not like that. And lots going on to address the areas that are bad. (Not enough fast enough, but we are all finally beginning to "get it" that crime 15 miles away is our problem, too.)
