Relocating to Jacksonville
I have been reading the posts on here about moving to Jacksonville, and It's really mixed views. The conversations on here is silly for the most part. It seems people are just using this site to vent about all they dont like about the area, I think if there is so many unhappy people they should all get together and take thier views to city hall and get some changes made. I wonder just how many of the complainants on here actually participates in any political or community based activity to voice and put the wheels in motion to make a change.
Its the voices on here that is possible to light that fire under the powers that be to do something. It doesnt matter if your here 3months or 30 years, complaining wont make a change. For all the negative responses to possible newcomers...is the very reason why things will remain the same or get worse it doesnt help to make the situation worse.
Instead state the facts or refer them to a site they can get the information or even more neighborly, invite them to whatever activity your involved in
so they can get a chance to see whats here instead of turning them away. These could very well be the folks to help achieve those changes craved for so hungrily.
I have lived in some of the larger cities currently Atl, and when I moved to the Atl it was slow but that was what I wanted when I left NY/NJ. 2years later they had the Olympics and Now I really hate it, its over crowded, congested and over priced.....but thats my preferance, I like space and the beach and a medium paced living which I think I can find in Jacksoville. Atl does have some great entertainment and beautiful homes and alot of programs, but the lines are so long to participate its not worth it to me. Comparing cities against each other is mute to me, you first need to know what you want and then find the city that comes closest. its about what you want. I know my joy comes from being near the ocean and warm weather year round...knowing that I will move to Jacksonville and make my own changes for the things that I dont like.
So to all the citizens/visiors and opinionators with negative beat a city down view its just possibile that its not the city but its you...if your a square peg in a round hole then recognize your a square peg and find your round hole but dont beat up where you are, or the people that like it.

I love a lot of things where I live and dislike a lot. For me, the choice to move to Jax was influenced by having family nearby which I don't have here and getting a "fresh start" after the big D. But...I do love how southern Jax is. Everyone has been outgoing for the most part and I miss that. I think it's the one thing that makes everything ok. That if I need/want something people are willing to help. That's something you can't find everywhere.
Good luck in your move. I agree..no place is perfect for everyone.

Good advice atl.onmove .
Some of the things people complain is lacking in Jax - culture, nightlife, art scene - could be resolved by people ! If enough people get involved, Jax will have more culture, nightlife, art scene, etc. .

Thats exactly my point. Maybe someone needs to print all the views on this site and take them to the town hall meeting or the appropriate venue and let them see how the citizens feel about the city or to a local newspaper then someone might pay attention. But I just dont see how complianing is enough, do something to change it or move.

I think that's the wonderful thing about getting some transplants..we see what is missing and what we loved in other cities and try to bring them here.
I attended the last Art Walk, and it has promise. If you find a business or event you really do like..patronize it, rave about it. It's so easy for things to go under just from no one knowing it's there.

That's really true. Especially considering how spread out we are, it's easy to miss things since most of us can't cover enough ground to know what's going on in every part of the city.
I've learned lots of cool stuff about NEFL just from this site...people talking and sharing their finds and getting a buzz going .

Everyone will have a different opinion. Either take it or leave it. That's the way I look at it!

Wherever I lived I felt it necessary to make it as comfortable as possible.....I GET INVOLVED. And from these views right here on this thread, I would welcome you guys as neighbors. I know it might take a few years to find my perfect neighborhood, but I know that starting out and I am committed to it. Thats part of the problem in general with our society we want "instant gratification". Let someone else do the work and we'll just sit back and gripe but dont want to get dirty. How about just starting with your block or street do something special start something to change something, isnt that what our country is built on? people starting something beause they didnt like it or got fed up....they're called HEROES OR PIONEERS.
It's the "transplants" that will come in with views from different places and give this city a fresh taste. Whatever your talent or taste is contribute it and see what happens, they just might be waiting for you to bring a difference.
I am not just talking I have done it without even meaning to, I felt great and my kids were proud.
Hopefully I'll be there by the end of the summer. I wont say were I'm moving to, I dont need the negative feedbacks, I'll work it out. But if your nice....I might offer you some Jerk chiken at my house warming.

I live in jax
I have lived in Jax for 8 years, I relocated here from Chicago. I will say that I do miss chicago and the fast city living but I really cant bash Jax at all, its warm, clean and has something going on most weekends.
I am actually relocating for my job to Orlando so good luck here.
