Jacksonville is very spread out. If you can provide a but more info, it will help in giving living location suggestions. Where in JAX will you be working, how long of a commute do you want max, and what is your housing budget?

Ortega Hills is an OK neighborhood not great but definitely not bad either. The majority of the residents are middle class, with a few lower income families interspersed. I know nothing about the townhomes other than they are there at the very front next to the RR tracks and Roosevelt Blvd.

Care to give us a price range to go on before we recommend something that's not in it? Also what interests do you have and would like to live near? (beach, parks or urban environments)

It all depends on what you're looking for in schools for your kids. The high schools are largely the same in what's available in the way of classes and the kids that attend between Mandarin and Wolfson. If you're looking for more specific classes or interests, the magnet programs are definitely the way to go. Duval County magnet programs are pretty much the only difference between one high school and another, in the lower crime areas of town. Obviously, in the higher crime areas, there is a difference in regards to violence, parental involvement, neighborhoods, etc.
