Sorry to hear you were a victim of random crime. I worry the same here. My moms car got broken into in a parking lot and cost hundreds to repair plus the cell phone in the car got stolen. I cant wait to get out of the crime infested city!

Crime happens everywhere...not just FL
I know it seems the crime is horrible in FL, such as Jacksonville, but in beautiful San Diego my husband had his car broken into (along with his cell phone and Palm Pilot being stolen) in the parking lot of an upscale mall there called Fashion Valley. Apparently the average is one car a day being stolen at that mall or something crazy like that. We live here in Jax now, but just wanted to put things in perspective. Unfortunately, crime is everywhere.

i lived in the southside on gate parkway for three years and never had a problem with crime. I saw it on tv but it did not touch my neighborhood. If you want to live in Jax you must make enough money to stay out of the northside, arlington and the west side. it is nice in the southside considering you have enough money to spend each month to feel safe.

The reason we picked clay county over duval...but just as JMC stated, crime is everywhere, it doesn't matter where you liv, even if you can afford to spend money every month to feel safe, it's still there.

SunshinesFL, I'm planning on relocating my family this summer. To be quite honest this information is alarming. Do you mind telling where this carjacking happened? I also was a victim of a carjacking in NY.

Odds are the perp in both carjackings was black.
If you live in an area with a high black population you will usually have a high crime rate.
The victims of this violent crime need to rally against the gansta, macho, culture that feeds this crime rate. The law abiding, hard working blacks have the most to gain if this crime reduced because they are most often the victims of it.
A well founded fear of black violent crime by whites is probably the biggest impediment to good race relations today. Lots of innocent young black men are stereotyped as thugs because of the actions of the ganstas out there. They have to endure heightened police scrutiny when ever they go about their business even if they are successful professionals due to this stereotype based on the gansta culture.
It would be a win/win situation for both races if this gansta culture was squelched by society just like the Klan was squelched in the South in the 60s.
This is the elephant in the living room that everyone sees but is afraid to talk about for fear of being slandered as racist by the PC leftist cadre. Even prominent blacks like Bill Cosby are slammed by the PC cadre for raising these issues.

If we really wanted to fix this problem we could do it. Just like the drugs in the prisons. We have spent and thrown away huge jack on Iraq. Take just a small part of that money and pay teachers better and upgrade the schools and help infuse communities that are poor crime pits with more cops on the beat to protect people who want to live a good life without fear and crime. That would be a start. Community fights crime best. Build community and crime will go down.

Crime in Jax
I live in Charlottesville VA.I am between richmond and washington dc.60 miles
to Richmond and 90 mile to DC.Talk about high crime.Jax is like any other big city, there is going to be bad things that happen.I relocated to Cville from Ocala, and the 15 years I lived there Jax was one of my most favorite places to go.Jax landing cool place to hang out,and my young guy huge fan,GO JAGS.If it helps Baltimores crime rate 3 times greater then LA.And we all know LA is like street gang capitol of the United States.Use street smarts, and I would be more afraid of the hurricanes.
