I've been looking at places of where to move after I graduate and I've finally settled on Jacksonville. I'm from Cincinnati and my girlfriend and I are planning on moving down to Jax in the early summer of next year.

I was wondering of where to live once I'm there. Since I'm not very familiar with the area I dont know which areas are going to be a good fit for us.

Considerations:

Bar scene close by ~ it doesnt need to be the premier bar spot, but if I want to have some beers I want to have a few options that are close.

by the water ~ i want to be within 20-30 minutes of the beach but also close enough to downtown. (so i was thinking on the eastern/southeastern end of the city

no homeless people breaking in my house ~ i dealt with this enough while in college and really don't like being in the slums anymore, but i'm not wealthy by any means, so a good common ground woud be good.

So really what were looking for is a nice, humble neighborhood close enough to the important stuff with a little bit of fun as well.

Is there any neighborhoods like that??

To be inside of 30 mins to the beach, The Southside (as you describe) will give you that.

Are you buying? Renting? What is your budget? Do you know where you'll be working?

I'm probably going to try for a short-term lease for an apartment, then look for houses close by. As far as work goes, not real sure where I'll be working but most likely downtown.

I have lived in JAX and Cincy (Hyde Park area).
Cincy is much more affordable.
I found the quality of life better in Cincy compared to JAX.

Try Neptune or Jacksonville Beach - short commute to business districts & great place for young people to live.

You'd probably like the Southside.
