Amazingly we got our bill and it was DOWN! I will have to say that I have taken extra steps to help that along! I try to line dry most of our clothes now (except socks... can't stand stiff socks! ) I have our thermostat set at 77 during the day and 74 at night. I am a SAHM, so we are home during the day and have lights and tv on most of the day, but I've tried to make sure that things I'm not using I am unplugging since I've read that even if they aren't being used, they are using some amounts of electric. They say that a computer turned off but not turned off at the surge protecter can still use as much electric as a refrigerator! So making sure the coffee pot (doesn't have a clock), toaster, ect is unplugged. My son's computer is turned off at the surge protecter during the day, open the blinds and let the sunlight in! Of course, we have trees, so that helps keep the sun from getting too hot.

Our bill was $257 and we are a family of 5 (2 adults, teenager, and a preschooler and toddler).

Good luck. JEA only accepts cash or money orders at their payment centers. Keep appealing to a higher level until you maybe find someone that will help you.

Register for the Neighbor to Neighbor program with JEA too.

Did you pay by check? You can get an image of the check from the bank once it has cleared.

Is this a monthly bill? I don't live there yet so I need to know these things... that's a lot of money!

Mine also went up but then I realized between the Christmas lights and the fact that it was 80 degrees and I had the A/C going, then the heat going in the beginning of Jan
Is why the bill is so much higher than normal for this time of year

Sensei Han - if your in Duval county your electric and water wil come on one bill from JEA monthly

We have an Irrigation meter. We are charged about 34.00 a month for the water we use in addition to the regular house water and sewer... so this months bill was 34.00 for irrigation, 47.00 for sewer, and 23.00 for water. Our electric this month was 179.00, but we ran christmas lights most of the month. Normally its about 150.00 for electric. Our water portion is almost always the same each month.

We are a family of 4, 2400 sq ft house.

My utility bills also took a major jump last month....and holiday lights don't cost that much to use...and I didn't have the ac running...but yet my bill jumped considerably.
