It would be nice to have the option. I'm sick of flying, it's too much of a hassle.

In Europe, you can hop from city to city, country to country by train, I'd love for us to have even just a bit of that here.

If Amtrack is going to do it, they need to hurry before it becomes more cost-prohibitive.

And sadly, don't think we have the economy to build that kind of infrastructure right now.

Cool Ride that train

I agree it's expensive to go long distances. We've been trying to get my mil to take from Ft Laud to Jax instead of driving but she won't do it. It is only $75 r/t for that tix but it does go to tampa along the way making it 8hrs.
Only one train goes to Tampa, the other is more direct, but both are still using an Jacksonville - Orlando - Auburndale - Winter Haven - Sebring - West Palm - Ft. Lauderdale , routing. The current insanity of sending one of them direct to Tampa, in reality means it's a New York - Tampa train. When it back tracks back out of Tampa then on to Miami (same train) it is more of a local Tampa - Miami serivce. These were the final and most severe cuts in service this state has had since before "The War of Yankee Aggression". It dates to when BUSH decided Amtrak would get $---- to run the National System. This left the corporation with little choice but to run hand to mouth, day to day. All of that is about to end.

Florida also has a State Rail Pass for $200 + and it's good on all trains - all year! The New Orleans - Gulf Coast - Pensacola - Tallahassee - Jacksonville - Orlando train will be back within 18 months. So tell everyone to jump on the train. It's only going to get better.

Wow, that is welcome news to me.
Maybe I need to embrace the chance to *relax* on the train and watch the world go by. It might require resetting my brain a bit, but it might be nice to settle down and actually enjoy a longer journey.
I really don't need to get to my destination all that quickly.
It might be a good way to see more of Florida.
