We will be visiting Jacksonville next month for a few days, looking for an apartment, P.O. Box, storage unit and just doing some driving around. Wife got laid-off last week, so our moving schedule has moved up to January. As for me, I've been unemployed since arriving here last Oct 07! My type of job just isn't here! We have both seen/found jobs in Jacksonville (thru job websites), but won't apply until we move there. The temperature in Jacksonville in the mornings can be comparable (some days) with here in Charlotte, but the daytime temp is 10+ degrees warmer there......what we want/need! Anyway, looking very forward to visiting your city/area!!
A Happy Thanksgiving to all of you Jax folks!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your wife Loveboating

It was a little chilly this morning but heading into the 60's
They are calling for 70's the next 2 days

Have you narrowed down an area that interests you ?
If so we may be able to suggest where to go for the PO Box (all UPS store have them) as well as storage units.

too funny. freeze warnings in jax usually take place during the dead of night for two or three hours. try living in chicago where the temps don't get out of single digits for days on end. when it reaches thirty degrees in march, it's no jacket weather. why on earth did i move here again?

Have fun visiting Jax next month, Loveboating .

Driving around for a few days is a great way to get a feel for the city and you really need a few days in order to see a good amount of it.

Yes, the daytime weather right now is pretty nice. A sweatshirt or polarfleece top is really all you need by day and then another layer for nighttime.

We got to Jacksonville (staying at a nice hotel in Orange Park) yesterday afternoon. Spent today, one ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL day....we have to admit, looking for an apartment in both Orange Park and Baymeadows. Didn't find much in Orange Park, but found a couple of nice places in Baymeadows. Will go out again tomorrow and look in another area. Might have to stay here until Friday. Found a number of industrial companies and offices just down the street from one of the apartment complexes in Baymeadows. That could relate into a possible interview/job once we actually move here! Either tomorrow or Thursday (if we stay on Thursday), we will make a trip to downtown Jacksonville and see more of the river. So far, Jacksonville is definitely for us! Don't really want to go back to NC, but have to so we can finish packing, etc.

I know theres some nice areas in Clay, but hopefully some else will answer those questions. If water is what youre looking for you are comming to the right place. Jax imo is just as hot/humid as the rest of the state. We just have a cooler fall, colder winter, cooler spring. There just very short. You can expect frigid days along with warm days in the winter. Florida winters are short even a North Florida winter. NE Flordia beaches are better imo,,not over run by tourist and more family oriented. Good Luck!!!!

Glad that you found this to be a good place for your family, but very important to know where you will be working before renting a home here.

"Don't really want to go back to NC"

LOL, I havent heard that one before.

In FL, you will hear the exact opposite (visiting NC and now have to go home to FL). If Jax makes you happy, go for it! You will hear a lot of ppl say, "you moved here from NC? Are you crazy?"

Welcome! (even though I'm not really there anymore) Glad you're liking it so far. I too am apprehensive about your relocation prior to finding work, but hey, from what I recall of this thread before, this isn't your first time and you know what you're doing. Good luck! And maybe stroll around Riverside/San Marco if you get a chance.

hey LoveBoating
If you thought yesterday was nice wait till today
They are saying we could get close to 80 might have to make a trip to the beach
There is a big weather nasty heading our way Thursday and it looks like it will be affecting the 95 north corridor so if you aren't a big fan of hidhway driving through that kind of weather you might want to stay till it clears out on Friday.
Which complexes in Baymeadows did you look at ?
Quite a few of us are right in that area and we can give you the locals info, also make sure to drive through the complex in the evening. I have seen a complete transformation once everyone is home.
