Another GREAT thing about living in Florida.........NO smoking in restaurants!! Actually, we didn't realize this until we thought (after eating at some restaurants) we weren't asked..... "smoking or non-smoking" by the Hostess. Here in NC, all restaurants have smoking/non-smoking areas. When we lived in Colorado, it was non-smoking in their restaurants also. We are non-smokers and my wife has asthma, so we don't like getting around smokers at all......nothing against smokers, we just prefer not to be around cig or cigar smoke. So, the non-smoking is another "perk" for us about moving to Florida!

Oh, this shows it's been almost ten years since I was in NC. I thought there was no smoking in all restaurants across the country.

In three weeks we will be on our way to "warmer" Jacksonville and away from our "boring" (to us anyway) life of the Charlotte, NC area! We will also be leaving behine our TOTALLY noisy upstairs neighbors who sounds like an elephant when he walks, drops who-knows-what-it-is on his floor and the kids on the top floor who love to act-out WWF matches with each other. Are we glad we are moving.........He** Yes!!!

Well, I'm not sure why you would want to leave an apartment like that, sounds (pun intended), like a great place!

Northern Florida
Loving boating and the beach saltwater check out Ameila Island. It is just a few minutes from Jacksonville and has what I think one of Florida's nicest older, small downtown.Great old buildings a bunch old commercial shrimp boats. The nice thing is you are close to Jacksonville and on a Island surrounded by water.Cool

Just how far was that "first murder" of 2009 (last night), which was near UNF?
How close (miles) from Southside Blvd / Belle Rive Blvd? Since the local newspaper is saying the murder was in Jacksonville/Southside, does that mean "Southside" is a fairly large area? We will be living near the freeway intersections of 295 and 95.

MSN Maps says that it is 8.03 miles north/northeast of Belle Rive Blvd. Just what kind of an area is that up there??????? And, it's near the UNF!!
Shoot, I always thought that colleges and universities were built/located in nice neighborhoods. Although, in Charlotte, there is high crime close to UNC (University of North Carolina).
When we lived in Parker, Colorado, a nice "smaller town" area, a construction worker was shot and killed at a construction site only a mile from our house AND a lady was found dead/killed in a motel room just two miles from our house. But, these two major crimes were the only ones we knew of during the 3 1/2 years we lived in that town.

Jax has like the highest crime rate in the state. The southside of Jax is better than most other parts though. But if you left Charlotte trying to escape crime, than Jax wouldnt be the place to do that. Just my thoughts.
