Default Jacksonville Christmas traditions

Besides the Christmas tree at the landing and the big signs on the WW GAY building(north of I 10) what other things are traditions for Jacksonville during the holidays? What are some of yours?

I remember going to (i think it was) the Kuhn's Florist store several times as a kid to see their animated Santa. Every December, the store would have this big Christmas display along the storefront window with animatronic characters caroling and stuff. Big attraction. Wonder if theyre still doing that now.

YES! They add more blow up stuff every year. We counted last year and got stuck near 100 when we couldn't see all of them in the backyard.

Other Jacksonville tradition: the Boat Parade followed by the Holiday Fireworks on Saturday November 29.

Two traditions in Riverside/Avondale: Christmas in Avondale, in late November/early December, where the shops on St. Johns Avenue stay open for people to sample their merchandise and there are sleigh rides and live performances, and the Luminarias on the third Sunday in December.

The Kuhn Flowers is on Beach Blvd in between the Atlantic Merge and Art Museum Dr. They still have the big display and it's up right now actually. I saw it driving home yesterday. There was a family stopped in the parking lot looking in the window.

Usually very close to Christmas, just a few nights before, we drive through the old neighborhoods to look at the lights. We usually start over in Avondale/Ortega/Riverside and work our way back across the river into San Marco .

You can drive anywhere to see lights, but there's something about all those beautiful older homes dressed in lights than makes it special .
