Default Wingate Mayo Clinic Area

My husband and I are going away for business to Jacksonville and may possibly stay at the Wingate near the Mayo Clinic. My question is if this is a nice, safe area? One that I will be able to tool around with my 2 year old? Also are there any hints about things to do around town with her while my husband is in meetings during the day? Thanks.

The Wingate is right at JTB and Hodges this is the Southside and a nice area. You will be about 12 miles to the beach
Mayo is the next exit east on JTB at San Pablo
I don't have kids so can't advise on that area.

You'll be close to the St Johns Town Center as well. Not sure what the little girl can do but you can certainly spend lots of money shopping there.

Hello happy. When I travel to JAX alone, I stay with my son, but my husband and I were in JAX 10/7-10/11 and stayed at the Wingate. My kids are adults, so I cannot offer valid things to do with a Toddler, but can offer my experience at Wingate and observation. Many (if not most) of the weekday guests stay at the Wingate (and Ramada) while they (or their loved ones) undergo numerous, exhausting appointments at Mayo (pre-admit, follow-up and actual surgeries). My husband and I drank and smoked with the loved ones until wee hours of the morning offering support and listening to their journeys (our choice). It was a humbling experience to say the least, as I was in JAX to touch and see my "baby" who is 100% healthy. My point is that the guests are mature, have their own agenda's and I got the sense that they looked out for each other. I trust this will make you feel a little safer with your choice.

As far as around the hotel; in front of Wingate there is a children's gym/gymboree I believe and a child care. You may inquire if the gymboree has per day rates and maybe enjoy a few hours their with your daughter. Ruby Tuesday is also in front of the hotel, so you can walk to lunch. There's a Starbucks (and Publix and other stores) in the strip mall next to Wingate (walking distance), so you can get your morning java fix close by (Wingate coffee is horrible).

There's a huge Water Park - Water Adventure I believe off Beach Blvd - towards to Beach, that might be an option to pass some time (but I don't know how cold it'll be when you get there). As projectmaximus suggested, SJTC is only a few miles off JTB (Wingate is across the street from the entrance rampt to JTB) and a worthy day trip. Don't forget the stroller so you can really enjoy the shopping!

Good luck with your research. I think you'll be fine in Wingate or the Ramada@Mayo.

MaryAnn
