Hi

I am planning to move on Dec 15th 2008 to jax.
I will be coming alone and my wife will join me mid Feb'09.
Few things I would like to know

1) I am looking for apartments where most of indian live.
2) My wife is expected and we want to have delivery in Florida .
Hospital should be in proximity.
3) I will be working with convergys , I am in IT.
4) safety is concern as my family will be alone.

I will be looking for temporary place intially till my wife joins me.

Any Suggestions based on above which place I should look for ?

Thanks

1) I am looking for apartments where most of indian live.

I don't know if there is any specific area where Indian families move to, but I know I had many Indian neighbors when I lived in the Southside/Intracoastal West area (zip 32246, specifically).

2) My wife is expected and we want to have delivery in Florida .
Hospital should be in proximity.

There are hospitals Downtown, on the Southside, out in the Beaches, in St. John's county and Clay county....you shouldn't have any problem being close enough to a hospital once you target in on an area to live.

3) I will be working with convergys , I am in IT.

So you'll be working on Baymeadows? Or is it a different location? Baymeadows is the Southside and you can go in any direction surrounding Baymeadows and find nice neighborhoods/areas to live. On Baymeadows Road itself, you can go to either extreme end of Baymeadows Road and find nice neighborhoods (either go East, near 9A or go West, near San Jose). Sticking close like that would give you an easy commute .

4) safety is concern as my family will be alone.

All the areas mentioned above are safe, family-friendly areas. Once you have a better idea of where you might want to move to, let us know and we can help you to be sure it's a safe area .

There are several eating places and shops specifically for Indians on the Southside. There are rows of apartments on Southside Blvd that are older and probably less expensive, from 295 to the Butler overpass. Once you go under the JTB overpass the prices will start to go higher since the apartments will be newer. There are some new places on A.C. Skinner parkway which are good. Any of the apartments near Gate Parkway are good, Touchton Road good. Baymeadows Road has some older apartments but be careful, some areas within the complex are not considered completely safe. It just depends on the location. They have a worship Temple I think on Sunbeam Road if I'm not mistaken. It's big and newly built. You might want to visit it and talk with other Indians to get the inside scoop.

Namaskar,

Why not contact the Hindu temple and find out where most Indians live? The only Indians that I have met are physicians and live in single family homes. The other option is to attend a puja at the temple and just speak to people there.

I was going to suggest looking for some kind of Indian Organization in town and talk with some of the members. Just remember that what is great for one person is not going to be great for all

Default Southside is best but check the apartments for safety

As riveree mentioned south side is best for your options. As Ryde4 mentioned the apartments on Bemeadows are cheaper and older but not safe.Check the apartments on Touchton and other areas which are slightly expensive and slightly away from your working place but not too far if you have a car.

Most of the Indian restaurants and indian groceries are on bemeadows rd.
Hindu temple is on Greenlands road which is not too far from that place.
Southside baptist is newest hospital in that area and not too far away from that place

Stick to the southside of town. Keep in mind that Jacksonville is culturally "Southern" so you might find daily interaction with other people to be awkward.
