Blacks, Gays & Women
I was reading wiki today about Jacksonville Mayors, it shows that all of them have been white males. With what is going out in the world today, all the changes that everyone in America is making, older generations dying off, what category would break the cycle in Jacksonville first, Would it be a female mayor, a black mayor or a homosexual mayor. My opinion is that it would be a female mayor before the other two options. My reason is the mentally of Jacksonville can be pro same old same old sometimes, and when I comes to politics in Jax, I doubt blacks and homosexuals are as connected. What is your opinion on eventually breaking the mayor cycle?

We had a black sheriff, Nat Glover, from 1995 to 2003. He was popular, and would have easily won re-election, but left the police to run for mayor. He got 42%, not bad for a political newcomer.
Does every city in the US have to elect a black mayor to prove they're not racist?

I really dont care what color the Mayor is in this city as lng as the leadership is good. Jax no doubt is a racist city just my opinion.

Of course there is racism here, from both whites and blacks; but a "racist city" wouldn't have elected a black sheriff.

Seriously. Nat Glover.
How many cities with a 75% white population came that close to electing a black mayor?? (who as mentioned, was already elected sheriff by the white majority too).
For that matter, former Mayor Tommy Hazouri is of Middle Eastern descent (Lebanese).

Had Nat Glover run as a conservative/Republican, he would have won the mayoral race. Jax is not a liberal city, so liberals will not be getting elected to the mayor's office anytime soon. Ergo, it's not skin color, sexual orientation, or gender that's the driving factor. Jax is NOT a racist city.

Why does it matter? Only you liberals bring up this kind of minority stuff, Jax is a conservative city and until there is a conservative minority running, there is hardly a chance. People think in terms of ideology nowadays, not in terms of color, although the presidential race in a way proved me wrong in that I know so many people who voted for Obama simply because he was black and they could assuage their "white guilt" (but they were already liberals, only liberals think that way).

I'm just trying to figure out what in the heck you're talking about. Breaking the "Mayor Cycle"? How old are you son?
Whatever happened to voting for the best qualified candidate, regardless of skin color or party affiliation?
