Default White Springs

Does anybody have anything good or bad to say about White Springs? It's north of Lake City and east of Live Oak. Possible move thereabouts sometime this year, also would be looking for work in the medical sector. Thanks!

Thumbs up White Springs is great, but rural

Haven't been there in quite a few years, but sure was a great place when we were there! The Ichntuchnee is wonderful (down the road aways), and you could tube down it. The Suwannee is there, too, be carefull of flooding...hard to believe in some places because you are literally 50 feet above the river, but it does flood!! We considered moving there because of it's prox to Gainsville (it only took a 45 min commute, i'm sure it's longer now, but still doable) and Jax, (again, problably more like 1hr 15min) It was very rural when I visited, so if you don't mind that lifestyle, it is great place & breathtakningly beautiful. Lots of camping, outdoors lifestyle. We visited once when there was a light dusting of snow on the ground, very beautiful, and again in the summer when it was hot & steamy;you do know that mosquito's are the state bird here in FL, so stock up on deet. Great place!

Smile white springs

Thanks for the info. I lived in Florida over 20 years, and have 2 "Gators". Just was not familiar with that area.

White Springs is like a walk back in time, very little has changed there in over 50 years, my grandmother lived on Kendrick St. In it's day it was a happening place, but due to a fire years ago the town just never rebuilt. The Stephen Foster Memorial is there, a great place to visit. If you like laid back small towns this is the place to be. I have wonderful memories of White Springs.

Default white springs

I live in White Springs now. Its a small town and pretty quiet. We moved here 2 years ago. I've been told that the elementary school here is good but the high school is not very good.

In Lake City there are 2 hospitals and I dont think either are doing much hiring unless you are an RN.

My husband has to drive to Gainesville to work at the hospital.

As far as liking the town, I do like it. The people are sort of friendly and most will mind their own business. On the other hand this also means they aren't real welcoming to new comers.

Land is still affordable. They are suppossed to build a horse race track in Jasper that will increase land values, etc.
